great to sign him to a one year deal. he has struggled under ron wilson, maybe he can turn it around this year and be a little more offensive? he has the skill to put up at least 20 points a year, just lacks the confidence. if not, i highly doubt they will bring him back next year - and he knows it.

I agree. He came into San Jose as a 2-way prospect with raw offensive talent and a solid offensive awareness matched with great defensive awareness and solid defensive skills he learned over in the german leagues. When he came over, he certainly had upside.

Then the coaching pretty much kept him away from the offensive game and tried to make him a defensive specialist. He\'s just not that kind of player, and his development has shown that. He still has offensive skill, but it\'s really rusty. The odd one-in-every-47-game shot he has on the 2nd line due to Ron Wilson shuffling his lines, Goc shows his playmaking ability, but it\'s almost like it\'s grown a bit foreign to him and he misreads positioning here and there. Frankly, I don\'t blame him, because he\'s never given a chance in the offensive zone at all, unless he\'s on the PK and breaking in shorthanded.

What he needs is for the coaching staff to enhance his training. He\'s a great faceoff guy. Check. He has solid defensive skills and can be a great 4th liner in the clutch. Check. He has two-way ability though, not strictly one way, and that should be worked on over the course of this season. Get him acclimated to offensive situations and the rust will get that Tremclad treatment.

Not saying he\'ll be a 40 point guy by any means. I once had his ceiling that high though. Not anymore due to stunted offensive development. 25 points Draper clone. Get that kid working on his shorthanded situations at the very least and you\'ll see some SHP from him.
