I was just offerd N. Mackinnon for my Getzlaf in a keeper league.

25 man roster, 6 keepers
Am I crazy to accept this trade?

In a one year I'd want Getzy .....in a keeper; Daddy Mac for me!

I'd treat this as a 70-75 point player for a 80-90 point player and get more in return, if you want to go that route. Don't trade based on what either player will do next year or the year after. Trade based on current worth and you'll be in good shape this year and next. He's obviously trying to milk the hype.

Am I saying he's going to be a 117 point guy? No.... An Eastern Conference scout very recently went out on a limb and suggested he could be even better than Crosby.

I'd be interested to know who this scout is, because at no point in any of his years in any league has he been in the same ballpark as Crosby. Crosby has beaten him by a large margin at every level from high school to the Q to the Worlds to the NHL at the same age and as a rookie; it's probably not a good idea to bring him or 117 points (which Crosby has beaten) into the conversation at all.

We get it, you're taking a risk and think there's a chance he does better than Getzlaf sooner than later. I'd counter that Getzlaf has a good few years left in the tank still and even if he gets outscored by MacKinnon on pure points in the next couple of years he will beat him in a lot of other categories.

I take Getzlaf and risk a good cry in 4 or 5 years when Mackinnon surpasses him.

If a team is going for it this year & near future, I'd say Getzlaf... who is good for 80pts AND is quite stealthy in Hits/Blks league.
I'd also expect Getzlaf to have a better +/-.

These things to Getzlaf's favor... MacKinnon would need to put up 90pts to even out the value of those peripherals.


If a team doesn't have a shot to win this year or next... then MacKinnon, yeah, definitely for any rebuild small or big.

Here is about the same thing I think. Mind you, any league that counts hits and PIM too, I might keep Getzlaf too.

I don't like to call anyone crazy, but I'd rather own Getzlaf.

Getzlaf will out beat Mac for then 3-4years in points.
