Default I put Ovechkin on the block

I just put Ovechkin on the block in the league in my sig, points only.
I'm curious to see what kind of offers I will recieve.
I'm currently in 1st, but by a really shallow margin.
Maybe I could sell him and get a decent return from a team looking to grab a "name". Maybe not...
I will post here the offers I recieve as they come in.

EDIT: post #38 for last developpments

Somehow I'm not thinking you'll get any offers you like.

    Maybe you're right.
But I feel some teams will try to get the big name.
It's really tough to land (and keep) the big keeper.
It took me 8 years of intense trading to regroup Malkin-Stamkos-Ovechkin.
Another gm has taken the same route and he now owns Tavares-Giroux-Getzlaf.
Let's see if someone not contending buy the name and offers me something I can't pass on...

I'm thinking of doing the same, but I think Plug is 100% correct. He needs to go on a tear before I would even attempt it. He doesn't carry the same weight in a points only setup.

Ovie's starting to light it up, I'm sure he'll gain some interest soon enough. Any hits worth while yet?

Yep. You might get a number of these.

But I agree with your decision to see what's out there. People might chirp you for putting him on the block, but why not investigate whether people are willing to bust open the warchest to get Ovie? You're under no obligation to accept crappy deals. It doesn't matter if people in your league assume that you putting him on the block means you're having a firesale. It's your call at the end of the day. Worst case scenario: you post the ridiculous offers you get here and we all have a good laugh at them.

    OK.
    Trade talks starting.
A gm with Voracek, Thornton and Drouin might be interested in Ovechkin.
I probably could land Thornton and Drouin for Ovie.
Being a contender, Drouin won't help me now. But I know I could swap Drouin for Okposo with another gm.
    So, the trade would be
    OVECHKIN vs THORNTON + OKPOSO.
What do you think of this deal?
    Fair value for Ovie?
Would you keep Drouin over Okposo even being in a race for the title?
Do you think replacing Ovie with Thornton and my 9th forward (Plekanec or EKane) with Okposo would help me win the league?
I would prefer to land Voracek and Drouin (Okposo) in this deal. It might cost me a + with Ovie. Maybe EKane.
Is the gap between Voracek and Thornton worths EKane?
OVECHKIN + EKANE vs VORACEK + OKPOSO
    Better deal than the first?

I've always found you get less when you put a star "on the block", and not the bidding war you'd think you'd get. Instead I'd target a few owners who have players you like (and ideally are at the mid to bottom of the standings) and send them a message saying "I'm looking at making a move, and I might be willing to move Ovie or Malkin, interested?" (even though you aren't willing to move Malkin per se). Their response will tell you how interested they are.

Oh, this is exactly what I did!
The only gm who's seriously considering trading for Ovie is the one with Voracek, Thornton and Drouin. He also has Benn but won't move him.
If I land Thornton and Drouin, I could also flip both for Karlsson and Vermette, but this won't help me in the standings. The gap between Ovie and Vermette is bigger (I think) than the gap between Karlsson and Phaneuf (my 4th Dman).

    First official offer I recieve!

My Ovechkin for his Duchene and Eberle.
I could switch Duchene for Karlsson.

    Opinions?

First one, I might think about Thorton, Drouin, Voracek, but would still probably decline.

Second, Duchne and Eberle is a big no. I might accept Duchene/Karlsson, that seems like a good one.

It's not Thornton + Voracek + Drouin! It's only Thornton + Drouin only, and this is no longer on the table.

For the one with Duchene + Eberle, I will probably decline. It's Duchene I could swap for Karlsson (with another gm).
The gm offering Duchene + also has Staal. This is the player I would take. But he's not willing to trade both Duchen + Staal.

Why "a big no" for the Duchene / Eberle deal? That's a deal I would probably turn down, but I think it is worth considering. Ovechkin's name doesn't carry nearly the same weight in a points only league.

In a point only league, Ovechkin and Duchene are not too far away in value in my opinion. Eberle is only a minor upgrade to your 9th forward however. If you could get better upgrades for your non-keeper players, then that would probably be a deal you should seriously consider to help staying in 1st position.
