Stamkos For ...

Hey guys, team in sig, I'm looking to land Stamkos after losing out on the Crosby sweepstakes. I sent an initial offer of Sharp, Staal, Carlson & a 1st for Stamkos and the guy rejected saying he wanted 3 forwards and no defensemen.

I'm looking for help in adding someone to Sharp & Staal to make the deal fair. Thanks.

Well this is hard to answer... If I was you I'd offer Boedker or Shaw. If I was him I'd ask for Tavares & Hall and nothing less. It's hard to say what's fair to offer, it's much easier to say what's fair to accept or reject. We don't know what kind of return he expects for Stamkos.

Has he already said that he's okay with Sharp and Staal? If that's the case I'd honestly try to lowball him and not offer more than necessary... Perhaps Stepan or Iginla. If he says no, you can go a step further and start offering Voracek, Pavelski or Landeskog (though I wouldn't want to lose them, especially Landeskog)

I usually say don't low-ball as it sometimes kills the deal altogether. If it was me, I'd offer any 3 outside of Tavares and Hall...I mean, this is Stamkos, and you need to show that your serious. Voracek, is a good sell high. Pavelski has great value, and may be the asset that gets the deal done. If he doesn't have an Av, Landeskog may be desirable.

I agree, don't lowball...you already peaked his interest, now work on him. Unfortunately, there's no fair trade to get one of the big guys. You will need to overpay, plain and simple. These trades are tough to make during the season if you're competing.

I believe I didn't choose the right wording. By "lowballing" I didn't mean offer him Shaw, Atkinson and a traffic cone. I should've rather said start a little bit lower than necessary and then add to the offer. So perhaps Staal, Sharp and Iginla first, and if he says no Staal, Sharp and Voracek/Pavelski next. I agree with what junyab said about Pavelski.

Why not just ask the guy who we wants as the 3rd forward, with the caveat that Tavares and Hall would by far too much to add. That way you get an idea where his head is, and you can give him exactly what he wants if it's acceptable to you. If he comes in with too high a price, then you offer the absolute most you'd be willing to move, and if he doesn't like it then you can say you tried and move on.

Also, with it being a limited keeper, I agree with above and would anyone other than Tavares/Hall.

Stepan seems like a pretty close comparable to Carlson from your original offer if that was close for him, maybe try making that swap and see what he says

You are looking at G,A,+/-,PPP,PIMS,HITS SOG

I firmly believe that this year Tavares and Stamkos will get the same amount of points +- 85 each. so it's a wash there. PPP will most likely be very close too, let's say 5 more for Stamkos at best? SOG, they both shoot at +- 3-4 shots per game, but stamkos will fetch you 50 more shots /year, now the HIT department is where Stamkos wins hands down. PIMs slightly favor Tavares by 20 or 30 mins / year

So I were you, I'd try to find a player on my team who hits alot and takes PIMs and sell him that.

Just don't overpay for Stamkos, to be honest I think that from here on Tavares will be better than Stamkos, but that's opinion, not facts. So in your position I'd stand Pat.

If I were him, though I'd be all over that Landeskog++ of yours for my Stamkos.

I think I'd stand pat. Tavares and Stamkos are pretty equal in value. If the + is nothing significant and has no keeper ramifications I'd consider (just because I like Stammer more), but at the end of the day I wouldn't add Landeskog/Voracek/Pavelski/Staal to get him.
