So what does everyone think? Is this more like Taylor vs Tyler or is it more of a Tavares vs Hedman situation?
I'm not expecting Eichel to leapfrog McDavid and go #1... I just wanted to start a thread that tracks their progress over the course of the year. I don't intend for this thread to debate who should go #1, just to discuss how each guy is doing and to share any interesting articles we might come across.

I understand that most guys don't score as much in college, but when was the last time a truly elite player like Eichel went the NCAA route... Not a lot of top prospects choose to go there. If McDavid was to put up 3 PPG, I would be more impressed then Eichel putting up 2 PPG. Not that either is a bad total, I just believe it's harder to put up 3 PPG over a 60+ game schedule then it would be for Eichel to put up 2 PPG over say a 35+ game schedule. Again, no total is anything to be upset about.

For comparison sake Toews numbers from 2 years at UND
    GP G A PTS PM
    2005–06 The University of North Dakota WCHA 42 22 17 39 22
    2006–07 The University of North Dakota WCHA 34 18 28 46 22

I realize they are entirely different times and types of players. But Toews was 1st overall pick in WHL draft and ended up 3rd overall. (Imagine Pittsburgh taking him instead of Staal? That's for an entirely different thread.)

Question: does Jack Eichel fall into the same class as Tavares/Stamkos, MacKinnon/Seguin/Hall, or somewhere else??

I'd feel pretty confident comparing Eichel as a draft eligible prospect to Hall/Seguin.

Darnell Nurse did a good job against McDavid last night, holding him to a single Empty Net goal. The Otters still won, but I believe that was McDavid's first non-multi point game. That guy is a freak!

These point totals are going to be off the charts!! 30 in 11 games, wow.. I wish Eichel would have somehow played in the OHL this season..

McDavid will miss time for the World Junior, does the CHL stop play for the Subway Series? Or will he miss some games from playing in that too? Figure around 50 games this season for McDavid....130+ points is a possibility which I'm pretty sure would be the highest total in the OHL since John Tavares went bonkers.

Eichel is up to 8 points in 4 games and is averaging a whopping 6 shots on goal per game.

McDavid has 38 points in 13 games, scoring at least a point in every game and 2+ points in 11 of the games.

Eichel is up to 25 points in 15 games. What is interesting to me is his shots on goal (57) and +/- (+20). Seems to be a pretty complete player.

McDavid remains sidelined with a broken hand (51 points in 18 games).

Eichel has been superb as a rookie so far. It's incredible what he's doing.

Marek vs. Wyshenski podcast is rumoring that Eichel will bolt from college after the World Juniors and play for a Memorial Cup in the Q.
Not sure it'll happen, but would be interesting.
