I'd take the chance on Vatanen's offensive upside. I think there is more of chance of him having an impact that I do Holden. Plus, you already have Gudas to cover some multi-cats.
Nick Holden
Sami Vatanen

Hey guys,
Currently in my cap league just fiddling around with my team looking at the wire.
Managed to snag a decent pick up in Soderberg, had to drop Downie though...maybe I'll regret it later?
It's as the title says, with my league cats in signature, I'm considering dropping Holden for Vatanen.
The situations are eerily similar
Holden has to battle Johnson + Barrie for the top pp spot, but could still be great at 600k salary.
Vatanen might very well be on the top pp unit, but with Fowler and Lindholm, I'm a bit cautious.
(there's also Souray somewhere in the back, as is Elliot)
I'm just looking at this from an opportunity perspective. Holden might reveal some hidden multi-cat potential so I'm not quite ready to pull the trigger..
What do you guys think?

I would want Vatanen. Holden has some very solid multicat value as a big hitter, but I still see Vatanen as outscoring Holden this year. I'd gamble with Vatanen because I'm not sure if you can expect a ton from Holden this year despite his good pts/g last year. I'm guessing if Vatanen is available, then Holden won't get picked up too quickly on your wire. So you can always do a 180 on it if the Vatanen experiment goes south.

I lik Vatanen's upside and situation better. He is surely going to get time on the potent Anaheim power play. Nuff said.

Yes, go with Vatanen. You can't ignore his offensive upside.

I see Holden regressing this year due to the Avs making all of those changes on D. Take last year with a grain of salt IMO.

Much rather have Vatanen. Holden is probably gonna lose some ice time to Stuart, as well. I could see Holden on the 3rd pairing this year, unless injuries strike. If Vatanen gets 18 minutes or more of ice time with top PP, it won't be close. I happen to think that's a realistic expectation for Vatanen's usage this year. Make the move for sure.

Nick Holden scored 10 goals on 66 shots last season.....a 15.2% rate. That's like, almost Steven Stamkos level so you can't expect a defenseman to repeat that. Cut that down to a normal d-man rate (5%) and you get 3 goals. All of a sudden Holden loses all of his perceived value and we're not even having this discussion.
Take Vatanen. The scoring upside with him is too good to pass up for a guy who will get 15-20 points and 150 hits and not much else. Vatanen will get some time on the PP unit, but even without that he should still be able to produce a bit at even strength. Look for 30-ish points from him this season. He had more shots than Holden in 6 less games, and his hit rate last year wasn't bad.....66 in 48 games or 113 over a full season. Not great, but not a category killer.
