    Default John Gaudreau

I'm hearing lot's of hype over this kid and I've seen him play.

He has outstanding talent, but he's 5'7 150 pounds how can that be good ?

How do you compare him with the 2014 prospects ?

Will he really become the next Martin St-Louis ?

    Cheers

From everything I've read, he's up to about 160-165 pounds now. Still small, but not 150 pounds small.

He has a great knack for avoiding contact, and that comes from his borderline elite vision and hockey sense. It will also help him transition as a small player. It's looking more and more likely that he makes the Flames out of camp this season, and the fact he hasn't played in the last two preseason games kind of confirms that. He's definitely capable of challenging for the Calder as he'll be getting decent minutes in Calgary out of necessity.

As for the comparison.....I slot him in with Nylander and Ehlers. So probably 6th or 7th overall in fantasy drafts.

This kid is pure gold. Every game he has gotten a bump on my draft list.

Agreed. Even as a Flames-hating, Gaudreau-mocking, smurf-teasing Oiler fan, I have been more and more impressed by him with every preseason game.

Time for the real deal pretty quickly.

The Flames future is looking really good with Gaudreau, Bennett, and Monahan lighting it up in the preseason..

There's also still hope Baertschi pans out too! I like have Gaudreau, Monahan, Bennett and Baertschi along with the potential of Grandlund, Poirier, Ferland, and Klimchuk! Future is, for once, looking bright!!

After the 2004/05 lockout, wasn't "The New NHL" supposed to be adapted, rule-wise, to allow for smaller players to excel in the league? I don't think it lasted as the GMs and coaches still prefer to go with the bigger players. I am not a Flames fan but I hope he is successful and can lead the way for other smaller prospects, as MSL and Steve Sullivan have done.

The kid looked dynamite in the pre-season games I watched. Shifty, quick and elusive. All of the necessary requirements for a smaller player. I think he sticks all season and has a shot at 35-40 pts. He would be Calder material on a top 15 team.

    He's not 5 foot 7 or 150 pounds either.

Flames staff has confirmed he's grown to closer to 5 foot 9 (maybe a tad over that) and a around 165 pounds.

Which puts him around the same size as Patrick Kane when he won the Calder. And scored 72 points.

In December 2013 I actually saw Gaudreau in person at a distance of maybe 25 meters. If he's 5 foot 9 then I have a better slapshot than Shea Weber.

25 meter distance can really distort height. A lot. That's a large distance. In pictures beside Hayes and Arnold, he looks a lot closer to 5 foot 9/10 than people seem to believe.
