I know Trouba has more upside than Brodin for sure. However my pool counts points and +-. I think Brodin is the safer +- option in this case and the 13th will yield a good player like Desharnais or Brodie or a top 10 draft pick while the 30th will get me a depth player or second tier prospect. What should I do?

Why do people say that Trouba has more upside than Brodin? What are you basing this thought on? In a points and +/- league, I would take Brodin over Trouba in a heartbeat. Trouba is still playing in Winnipeg and they are a terrible team with not many signs of improvement any time soon. Moving up 17 spots in the draft is just icing on the cake.
My guess, Brodin isn't an overly offensive player and even though he plays regular shifts with Suter 5 on 5, he is a second option for PP time. His +/- so far hasn't been anything to brag about either.
As far as the trade goes, even though I think Trouba is a bit over blown, I'd do this deal. Trouba is a better offensive player and even as a rookie, his +/- in his rookie year is just as good as Brodin has been in his young career.

Well done sir! Well done!
Well in his first season Trouba has already outpointed Brodin by 10 points. Winnipeg may be a worse team but that won't limit Trouba's offensive performance, just hurts his +/- a bit. Even playing for a "terrible team" he was able to be +4. Brodin projects to be a solid 2-way dman who I think will be more valuable in real life than in fantasy, I haven't seen any elite offensive ability. Unlike Trouba who has shown flashes of brilliance.

Trouba easily in a comparison with Brodin.
But just how big of a drop in proven talent are we talking about from 13th to 30th? You say someone like Desharnais or Brodie is available at 13.....so what kind of players are we looking for at 30? 40 point guys? Worse? Getting a potential 60+ guy like Desharnais versus a 35-40 point RJ Umberger makes a huge difference.

Exactly. The 30th will land me a deeper prospect. Maybe someone drafted in the bottom half of first round this year. For proven players, the best player I can see being available is maybe, (and I mean maybe is Colin Wilson) or guys like that. 40 to 50 pointers. T my 13 spot desharnais may not be available but I'd have a choice of him, Brodie, Pearson, Ehlers, Nylander and so on.

Yep. You make this move all day long. Trouba by a significant margin, and I think you can get someone respectable enough at 30 to make this a win for you. This is where smart drafting comes into play.
