Does anyone know if he will be placed on IR before the season, or is there no point for the Rangers to do that? I would love to be able put him on IR and pick up a guy before the season starts so I don't miss any games. Even if Yahoo put him day-to-day so I could use IR+, that would be fantastic.

Good luck with that. I would love it too, but teams have no incentive to add a player to the IR prior to the season, and in my experience, Yahoo! doesn't worry about any injuries until the season starts either. Maybe a day or two before.

Drouin has already been listed as day-to-day so we will see what happens with Stepan

Surprising. I've been checking on Datsyuk and Stepan regularly, so who knows.

We are going to take this IR thing one day at a time. Currently, we are just going day-to-day. We don't know any more, so we are just taking it day by day.

    Sounds like the NHL.

For your league, I'd probably say no.
    2C setting is pretty shallow.
And you'd have to drop a guy since he won't be "IR" until the NHL season starts.

As expected, Derek Stepan (fractured left fibula) has been placed on long-term injured reserve. Must miss at least 10 games.

    He's close:

Derek Stepan (fractured fibula) practiced with the Rangers for the first time.

Stepan suffered the broken leg during a practice in training camp. Coach Alain Vigneault wants him to partake in more than one practice which could hinder him in playing on Monday but Vigneault thinks that Stepan will play within five games. That means if all goes well, Stepan will be in the Rangers lineup by next weekend's games. Put him in your fantasy lineup as soon as he is ready to go.

Great news! Hopefully he starts clicking sooner rather than later with MSL and Nash.

Closer but still not in tonight

"Rangers center Derek Stepan participated in contact drills at the end of the morning skate, but he will not make his season debut against the Red Wings. Stepan has been out since fracturing his leg in the preseason. He could play Saturday at the Toronto Maple Leafs."

thinking more like next week as he will have to get in game shape, Rangers can't afford to bring him back too soon, and neither can I

I agree, I think they will take it safe and make sure hes 100%. Season just started, hopefully he isn't rushed in and re-injures his leg.

    Sounds like Saturday?

Stepan and the Rangers now have to wait until Friday — with a scheduled day off Thursday — for that full-team practice coach Alain Vigneault insists on, with Saturday’s game in Toronto as his earliest point of return.
“Step has been medically cleared, but unfortunately, because of circumstances, we haven’t been able to have at least one team practice,” Vigneault said. “He’s been on three optionals, and he hasn’t been on one full-team practice. So I say to you that the chances of me playing him [Wednesday] are very, very slim.”
Vigneault added when Stepan does return, his place in the lineup is going to be “in a situation where he’s going to have success.”
The coach also said he would ease Stepan in by keeping him off the penalty kill until he proves he is ready for the heavy workload.
“It’s exciting to be close, [but] you can’t rush it, that’s for sure,” Stepan said. “You have to be patient with it.”
