Hmm, mystery ailment, lingered some, no fear for now he'll miss start of season ... I'm starting to feel uneasy

Evgeni Malkin was not listed on either of today’s practice rosters, and Johnston provided a detailed update on his status.

“He’s not skating or working out right now. I expect that he will be over this next 4-5 days. I know I’ve said that before; it just seems to be one of those things where if I believed it was going to be long-term, I’d tell you it was long-term but I believe it’s not going to be long-term. But it’s still a few days away before he’s going to be able to work out and be on the ice. So in that mindset, I know he had a hard summer of training because I was over there (in Russia) and I watched him train, so I’m excited to at least know his conditioning is at a high level. Much like Sid. Sid was out, but you watched him practice. He came back to practice and it looks like he wasn’t out at all. So Geno is going to have a little bit more catchup, but we’ve been doing video work with him, so at least he knows how we want to play and what changes there are, what adjustments he has to make.”
    Sounds promising, I guess.
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.

Normally teams get this vague about injuries come playoff time. The season hasn't even started. I really hope this isn't the start of a really annoying trend.

Do you think Crosby is gonna deal with this a lot to start season or do you think pens are just doing the wise thing and not risking their most prized possession on the worthless preseason

News of this sort is happening league wide; only because it's such star names is it garnering so much media attention. Flagging this information hazily and calling it "nagging injuries" etc is a lot easier to appease fan bases who want to see their stars than, "we ain't playin em until we have too." Just my opinion here but it seems to be a common place tactic at this point.

Yes, except Malkin hasn't even been skating. As an owner I'm definitely a little concerned, if it was simply holding them out of preseason to protect their top players you'd think he would at least be skating/practicing.

Time for someone to tag Sid as a thank you for the hit on Datsyuk last time...

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 4m4 minutes ago Expectation is injured PIT C Evgeny Malkin, who has missed most of training camp, will do some light skating today.
