Seems like an easy way to make $1250. Of course the risk is huge (100% loss), but what are the chances of LA (or Chicago) actually missing the playoffs entirely??

What are the chances that a team suffers from a Stanley Cup hangover? Last couple years, seems like LA limps into the playoffs and then turns it on. If any team has regular season motivation issues, it could be LA, which seems to be the polar opposite of SJ.

Because $10,000 is a lot of money to lose and a lot of money to tie up for six months while you wait for an outcome.

haha I wish I had $10K to bet on hockey!

That said I think its a safe bet, BUT don't forget this is a team built for palyoffs but the regular season has seen them be a bit more risky. The last 3 seasons saw them finish 6th in the west (won cup), 5th in the West and 8th in the West (won cup).

I'd be truly shocked if they missed, but I can see an outside chance of it happening (something a la NJD last season goin 0-13 in Shootouts and missing the playoffs despite beastly possession stats in the season)

Because there are much better places to invest 10k for 6 months and get a 10% return with a lot less risk.

Can you afford to lose $10 000? If not, then don't do it. A return of 12.5% is pretty nice, especially when it takes less than a year, but if you would financially devastated if they miss then it is a horrible idea.

The 12.5% payoff is not worth it IMO... There are easier ways to make up that money without having to pony-up $10K.

The fact that they are a often considered a team 'built for the playoffs' is a good point. A habit of limping in could backfire and blow the whole operation. Would sure make for an entertaining season though! Maybe Chicago or Pittsburgh would be a safer bet?

I think Pitt would be a safer bet just because of the relative weakness of the East compared to the West. What are the odds on Pitt?

This thread makes no sense. Isn't forumname the guy who barely survives on like $400 mth or something and literally spends nothing on living costs to make ends meet? And now he wants to gamble with $10k on a single bet.

For the record, the $10,000 was meant to lure people in here more than anything. I don't think I would have the nuts to actually lay that much down. A smaller amount is still tempting though...

Go buy some aggressive growth or balanced growth mutual funds and you can probably make your 10% without putting the capital investment entirely at risk. If you decide to do this bet, do it for entertainment only, and not for the pipe dream of easy cash.

    don't mind the typo earlier.

Crosby and Malkin are not starting training camp now due to injuries.

The real question is this. Can you handle losing that $10,000? If the answer is yes, then it's not such a big deal. If the answer is 'No', or 'I don't know' then don't do it.
