I need to keep 5 players (team in signature) and I am debating which one of my defencemen to keep. I planned on keeping Schneider, MacKinnon, Kopitar, Neal and one of the following D:
Phaneuf (I like his PIM's)
McDonagh
Ekman-Larsson

I'm pretty tempted to tell you to axe Phaneuf on principle alone but that's probably not a winning strategy. Until he proves otherwise Phaneuf is a rotisserie beast. OEL is almost good enough to push him out and definitely has the upside to justify it but Phaneuf is still the better all-around option.

Yup Phaneuf is money, I wish he would get his SOG and Goals back but even without great multi cat D. Honorable mention is OEL he almost fired 200 SOG last year (199) and I don't think hes peaked yet

OEL did actually have more shots last year than Phaneuf, but Phaneuf crushed him in PIM's. I'd still pick Phaneuf I think, but it could be tempting to take OEL if you wanted to make a risk pick.
I'd still take Phaneuf though. It's a little concerning that he's now shot two seasons in a row at 145ish shots, but hopefully Rielly/Gards taking a jump puts him back in more of a shooters role and those go back up.

My favourite player on the list is McDonagh but, surprisingly, his PIM are lower than what I would expect. Combine that with his lower point totals and you can feel secure in not keeping him. OEL should have the better point totals and more GWG and PPG than Phaneuf but is also younger and has yet to reach his prime. Phaneuf may be the better choice for the next year or two but after that I would pick OEL.

I don't see Phaneuf maintaining 140+ points of PIMs but even a reduced amount of 100 or so should make him the best guy to own from that trio.

Phaneuf was the best choice for the PIM.
Best to stock PIM on defense if you can and Dion is a good one for that.

I hate Phaneuf but he is the right choice from those three options.

I have same cats and all 3 of those players. Phaneuf by a long way with OEL clear second.
