Tsn the channel reported this on their ticker just now. How does this affect Smith? Who\'s the starter between these two?

they \"reportedly\" signed him according to TSN. But I heard that rumour a while back so this time, it might be true. As for Brunette, the deal is official now, once again according to TSN.

Why would he do that? Wouldn\'t it be 1A and 1B with Smith? I figured that would be part of his dislike with the Washington situation.

Kolzig won\'t be a 1 with any team in the NHL and I\'m sure he realized that.
We get one of these - Don't waste it.

I think that is a great move for Kolzig. He is still going to get his opportunity to start in Tampa. Also a good move for Tampa. At least they have some insurance should Smith falter.

pretty bitter move by kolzig if this is true... he\'s played in washington for over a decade and now he\'s signing with a division rival? I don\'t know...

Kind of like sundin signing in montreal... it just seems wrong...

why does tampa insist on collecting fringe netminders with the hope that one will be starting quality?

Why not go after a guy who can actually carry the team? Doesn\'t make sense to me... =/

he isn\'t terrible... but his best days are certainly behind him... he certainly cannot carry a team anymore.

Has there been any reports of the dollar value of the contract. I am guessing that he accepted less money for the opportunity to compete for the starting role.

At the end of the day, I am sure that he is very bitter with Washington. Rightly so. On the surface, that changing of goaltenders, certainly didn\'t appear to be handled well. Albeit Kolzig is not what he used to be.

i feel the need to defend Olli the Goali... he controls the puck well, and provides a ton of vetran leadership.

Smith and Ramo have never really been #1 goalies, so getting a mentor type to be the 1b or #2 guy may be thier best bet for this year.

I agree, Olie did a great job in Washington over the years...like TB, they never bothered too much with D.
