Default Cutting cable, NHL network, internet and the Habs!

    Hey everyone,

So yeah, cable has gotten ridiculous... I live in Ottawa but I'm a die hard Habs fan. I wanna watch as many games as I can but cannot miss the Saturdays of course..

Will ordering the NHL Network on Apple TV get me the Habs games I need? I currently have Bell for internet but is it the best one for streaming games in this town?

I know it varies by neighbourhood, region etc etc but just looking to see what others' experience is out there.

    Thanks a bunch everyone!

Haha, I find myself in the same boat as far as dumping my cable TV, and investing in NHL Network on the Apple TV. Is there any forum members who have done that with no, or at least few, regrets?

    I'm looking into just that..

Also before we can all go Hurrah, I found threads like this on the internet that have me thinking....

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread...rt=30&tstart=0

And also, I found some pages that mention that it wouldn't be available in Canada...? Yet my Apple TV clearly shows the option on its home screen... weird.

The battle is not won yet. Cable and internet prices disgust me.

Have you looked into NHL CenterIce? They show all the games in the league online live as long as its not being broadcast in your area. For those games I suggest a bar or friends house or masking your IP address

Looking into that as well. The good part about being in Ottawa is that they broadcast the Habs games on TSN Habs and RDS... which I guess just became bad news for me because they broadcast all the Habs games in Ottawa, they will be blacked out on NHL CentreIce for me?....

have you looked into getting an HD antenna? If you have access to your roof and can point it the right way you can get all the main network stuff over the air. Not sure how that works in Ottawa but I do that to watch my nfl football

I'm doing hockeystreams this year, a buddy of mine has it and we would watch all the games all night while playing poker, it seemed to work really well, high HD quality, no buffering and no blackouts

Thanks Guru, Vanek that option is sounding pretty good and looks good.

What quality/brand internet do you have/need?

FWIW, last season I bought NHL GameCenter live to watch my NHL hockey. I'm a Habs fan living in Montreal so I obviously couldn't watch the games because of the "blackouts" but with the Chrome extension "stealthy", I was able to.

I'm looking into hockeystreams.com for this year simply because it looks to be much easier than NHL Gamecenter. I felt like the video playback was a bit choppy on Gamecenter but that maybe because of my laptop and not the actual Gamecenter.

NHL gamecenter streamed via xbox works for the most part..thru tablets, phone it's quality and reliable. Blackouts overcome by masking yer IP

    From my understanding.

    NHL gamecenter:
    PROS: quality, reliability, credibile
    CONS: local blackouts, price

    Hockeystreams.com
PROS: price, no blackouts, ahl and junior league games, can subscribe for 1 week, 6 months, or one calendar year. Includes playoff games.
CONS: illegal site, not reliable, could theoretically shut down any day

Both services have home and away options. Both services have very good quality.

I'm probably going to give hockeystreams a chance after the gamecenter trial ends. Most likely I subscribe for a week and check it out.
