Haha, I thought the exact same thing as soon as I hit submit. I will gladly be the one to talk my fellow dobberites off the ledge.

Glad we avoided the sweep today. Loved the faint MVP chants for Donaldson in Oakland

Well Friday’s game there was the odd hop off 2nd that would have turned the double play to end the inning, and keep Stroman’s pitch count down. Saturday, too little too late. Sunday, rounding form a bit.

Smoak signing I’m actually happy with. Considering it’s 2mill below the average 1st baseman salary, and he’s solid defensively I like it. If he can hit 260-270 it becomes a steal. Plus he’s been surprisingly clutch this yr. High Lev. situations this yr he’s hitting 0.271 (13/48), OBP of 0.397, 2HR, 7RBI, 10BB (on full counts he’s hitting 0.280). And from the 8th and onwards he’s hitting above 0.391.

If he can somehow turn his 0.250 style of hitting and hit a curve slightly better, 270 isn’t out of the question. He hits surprisingly well in the 4th and 6th hole (0.303 and 0.277).

I was away for the weekend with no WIFI so I was kind of disappointed to come back yesterdau and see the Jays lost the first two to Oakland of all teams. Sweet 9th inning win last night though so I guess that made up for it.

I know the Padres are coming to town.....but I heard it's the first time ever!?! How is that possible??

They’ve played 9 games vs SDP, 5-4, all in San Diego. They are the only current MLB team to have NEVER played in Toronto.

That is just strange scheduling. I guess this really is home field advantage?

With the rumours of Puig being on the block, I’d like to see the Jays do a deal with Bautista for Puig. The big thing would be, here’s a 1 week negotiation window Dodgers and if you get the deal done, we get Puig you get Bautista.

    Positives on this:
    Puig loves Toronto
Puig is young (25), and under team control till 2018
    Puig is cheap (5.5m 2016, 6.5m 2017, 7.5m 2018, 12mill signing bonus)
When he tries defensively, he’s amazing (cannon for an arm)
    Potential for 20HR/20SB, but likely a 20/10
Can likely lead off (Speed, OBP 318 this yr, 362 on his career)
Toronto’s reclamation projects seem to always hit (Saunders, Bautista, Edwin)

    Negatives on Puig
    Doesn’t always try
Poor clubhouse attitude (Saunders was like this tho in Seattle)
Seems to have hit a wall development wise
You instantly piss Bautista off. If he doesn’t sign with the Dodgers (waive his NTC too), he’s gone in FA due to bad blood.

Everything I've seen around Puig makes me say no thanks. We need pitching (relievers!!) more than Puig.
10 Team, Points Only, Cash League

25 Man Roster (no position), top 20 point getters count at end of month
Keep 20/25 at seasons end, Cut 5 to FA for redrafting
    Goalie points W=2pt L=-1pt SHO=2pt

Stamkos, Tavares, Eichel, Mercer, JRobertson, RThomas, Kucherov, Nugent-Hopkins, Tuch, KConnor, Necas, Point, Konecny, SJarvis, Cozenz, Morrissey, Bouchard, Josi, Novak, Tolvanen, Peterka, Brink

    G- Vasilevskiy, Sorokin, Oettinger

The issue is with pitchers, it’s a sellers’ market. Toronto doesn’t have the prospects to buy into a RP that they need. It’ll be a Grilli like move.

I’m honestly fine now with Bautista not a Jay. And I’ve talked to people who are even saying Tulo should be sold high right now if the jays slip out of a playoff spot. Kinda makes sense. When SS get to a certain age they fall off (Reyes, Hanley Ramirez). Tulo’s style is different, but at 25mill a yr…it would suck to have a player with that contract handcuffing your team. I’d personally keep him.

The way that Toronto has dealt with these “attitude” players in the past, I’m fine with taking the chance on Puig, because he is everything Bautista is in the field if not better when focused. At the plate, he is a Reyes Lite, dude has pop, has speed, gets on base, and untypical for a lead-off strikes out “often”. And, with only 2 seasons on contract after this one, if it doesn’t work out, you’re not handcuffed into a bad contract.

When Pomeranz is likely the largest name to be dealt for SPs, and the best RPs are coming from your rivals (Chapman and Miller), it’s the biggest sellers’ market in a LONG time. Toronto won’t be using Bautista to get a pitcher.

Guerra is one of the better SPs likely to be dealt this yr….Guerra….

We won't trade Bautista period IMO. For that matter there I doubt we make a major move at the deadline. Things are just a bit too gummed up. AA's deals last year were awesome but essentially have locked us in. This is the team that we're going with sink or swim.

And yeah, I'm not buying the Puig hype either. Stat geeks can throw whatever numbers they want at me, no thanks.

I expect only some minor deals to go on here. Maybe a depth starter or depth bullpen arm.

First, Bautista has to approve of the trade and be willing to move. If he does, why would the Dodgers give a young stud OF up for a couple months of Jose?

The Jays are in an interesting spot. If Sanchez gets moved to the pen, then you need to find a SP. Is Hutch that guy? Personally, I hate taking Sanchez out of the rotation but our BP would become rock solid with him in it. Or do the Jays move a highly regarded prospect like Pompey or Greene? One of them could be packaged to land a starter with a year of control.
