Default Air Algerie plane crashes in Africa

    http://www.itv.com/news/update/2014-...-burkina-faso/

Took off from Burkina Faso, I believe going to Algeria. Seems to have crashed due to bad weather, 116 on board all feared dead.

"Burkina Faso’s transport minister said 50 French nationals were among those onboard, along with 24 Burkina Faso nationals, six Lebanese, five Canadians, four Algerians, two Luxemburg nationals, one Swiss, one Nigerian, one Cameroonian and one Malian."

    - I have no idea why i posted this in general hockey chat, still too early in the morning for me. mod please move to the lounge please.

What's with all the plane crashes lately... Malaysia x 2, Taiwan and now this.

Makes me second guess my Spain trip in September!

Yeah - I'm terrified of flying, and this doesn't help one bit.

    Fun stats time:

Flying the 3700 (or so) miles to Spain raises your chance of death by about 4 micromorts... which means it is safer than running a marathon (7 micromorts).

So there you go, no need to worry.

In all seriousness though, here's hoping for a miracle for some of those poor folks.

agreed, flying is and always will remain the safest form of transportation.

yearly a lot more people die in their cars, bikes and what have you.

just happens to be that IF a plane goes down, its a big hit all at once. But at the same time, probably the best way to go, you know you are dead, rather than in the car where you could be paraplegic and other nasty outcomes.

don't fear flying, especially with A listed carriers. An accident can happen anywhere

Ironically - I run 3-4 marathons every year... so now I'm even more worried LOL
