Default Travis Sanheim: The Next Ryan McDonagh, Or Draft Day Miss?

The last time the Flyers had the 17th overall pick before selecting Travis Sanheim, they drafted a player by the name of Bobby Clarke. Will Sanheim leave behind a legacy comparable to Clarke's? Or will he be another Marc-Andre Bourdon?

Im not sure why you bring up Bourdon. He's a guy with tons of concussion issues that affected his career. Are you saying Bourdon was a bust? I am just curious as to why you mention him.

I do like the pick for Philly though.

Good solid pick by Philly. they need to get some future D-men that can skate.

With the exception of Morin & Hagg, Bourdon was the most recent higher pick as a defenseman. Maybe not the best comparison because, like you said, his lack of "production" are due to concussions.

Sbisa was drafted ahead of Bourdon, the same year.

True, but he was dealt in the Pronger trade. Certainly hasn't lived up to the 1st round pick, but I don't know if I'd label him a bust.

Shias has played over 250 games. That's living up to the pick.

As a 1st rounder, though? I guess. I know a lot of people severely undervalue him today, but he certainly hasn't lived up to his draft day projection.

Yes. This isn't NFL or NBA. NHL First rounders after top 5ish barely stick in the league. I don't have the numbers but the averages for his selection would be lower than 250 games.
