Another reason why I never go for closers in the draft. Like it's seriously ridiculous unless you're getting an elite guy like Chapman or Kimbrel.

Both had recently been removed from the closer's role (Smith/Melancon)

Exactly...so how many have been removed already?? At least 10....

\I just hate the closer runs that happen in drafts...boggles my mind.

I was just answering Stone's question on whether they were still closers.

But yeah, it's always risky going for a closer too early, but of course league depth has an effect on strategy. For example, I'm in a 20 team league with holds, and I ended up drafting Balfour and Hunter. Especially with the top setup men drafted as well it's hard to replace on FA. Fortunately I managed to trade for McGee recently but that's all I have for now. Unless Guerra gets a chance at some point.

Of course...Ive never been in anything bigger than 14 for baseball. But I still feel the same philosophy applies in round 10-15 because you can easily nab a solid player there, or at that point all the great closers are gone so people just start taking whoever is hot out of spring training.

I dunno.....draft pet peeve of mine I guess...
