Poor guy. I think Tampa broke him. He was a good goalie in Columbus. A poor(or homeless) man\'s Luongo. Not as clutch, or as skilled, but was a solid goalie nonetheless. And then he just broke in Tampa. Confidence issues can do that. Here\'s hoping he rebounds, as he spent too many years on bad teams to finish off his NHL career like this.

indeed... he played behind some crappy defences the last number of years...

Between him, Raycroft, and Emery there are definitely some \"skilled\" 2nd tear goalies with a good deal of NHL experience on the market now...

I\'d like to see San Jose pick Denis up for cheap as a backup. That way if nabby went down, SJ would have a good guy to fall back on.

Don\'t think there should be any mention of Luongo in a Marc Denis discussion!!

He is more of a poor man\'s Andrew Raycroft....thought he was good, but I guess not. Cannot see any NHL team giving him much of a chance unless he signs for the minimum. Raycroft on the other hand will probably have some interest from a few teams.

I never understood the appeal of Raycroft, he always struck me as no more than a serviceable backup at best

Are you serious? Poor Man\'s Raycroft?
Did you see Denis play in Columbus? He backstopped a terrible team for years, and stole them whatever wins they got. He always had to face a tonne of quality scoring chances, along with a barrage of shots.

At least Raycroft had a decent team his rookie year. Denis never had that. I know Raycroft is better than his performance in Toronto, but not by a whole lot.

Tortorella mentally crippled Denis, and anyone who knows goalies knows that one without confidence is one without a starting job. Not only did he have to deal with an equally porous defense, his coach didn\'t even respect or trust him.

I know a few people who say Denis is like David Aebischer or Raycroft, or whatever, and that\'s just not correct. Denis has work ethic. He has skills worthy of being a starting goalie, if only an average or below average one, but much like Felix Potvin, he has to recover his confidence. Potvin never did, and he faded away. Aebischer never even seemed to try.

Denis performed as good as one can expect during his stint in Columbus. Raycroft at least had some help, as Toskala has shown.
