Why do they need to keep doing this?

I get the sequels 2-3 years after the original, Hollywood is shameless and they need to suck every ounce of blood out of any given franchise before they're satisfied that they've made enough money. That's why we had all those bad Pirates of the Caribbean movies after the original...or Ocean's 12 and 13 after a good first movie, or Hangover 2, 3 etc whatever. I don't like it, but I understand it.

But why take a classic movie from 20 years ago and tarnish it's memory with a sequel? Dumb & Dumber was a funny movie in 1994, but what possible reason do we need for a sequel today? It's going to suck and it's going to suck hard. So do yourself a favor and just don't watch it, don't reward those greedy ****s in Hollywood by giving them your money, because this shit needs to stop. I heard they're making a Goonies 2 as well which makes me shudder...or worse still a Ferris Bueller 2! These are iconic movies from our childhood that are classics because they captured a piece of the era in which they were written and produced, to try to duplicate that magic 20-30 years only cheapens it, it's freakin disgusting.

Or... you know, aside from it making sense financially... the cast and crew also had a blast and that's also a big reason why they're returning for another one.

Edit: And I've had this discussion with other people about a million times... but a bad sequel doesn't make the previous movie(s) worse.

Seem to watch parts of the original every couple of months - classic stuff.
Now if we could only get regular reruns of Monty Pythons flying circus and SCTV - life would be good.

Only reason I'm excited is Carrey and Daniels. It probably won't compare to the first, but to be honest, the first probably wouldn't be as funny if I saw it for the first time today. But it's still perfect every time it's on TBS!

This is pretty much guaranteed to be a horrible disappointment.

Are there any comedy sequels that are actually good? I don't even mean 'as good' as the original, but any good at all? The best comedies are good because they tap into something new - you can't do that with a sequel. I think they should have had these 2 guys make a completely separate dumb-buddy movie together - at least then it would have a chance to be funny and they wouldn't be forced into telling the same jokes twice.

I didn't find anything in that trailer funny, and I'm more pissed off than I was 3 minutes ago.

This is actually the third Dumb and Dumber movie. They made Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd back in 2003 (horrible movie, by the way).

I guess they're making a new one every 10 years or so.
