And why is that? He had 1 less point than Benoit Pouliot this season, and outscored both Lee Stempniak and Marcel Goc, two of Pittsburgh's trade deadline acquisitions. I understand he has some mileage on him, but for the right price, he's a viable option for a lot of teams.

Penner would be better if he signed in Boston. Would have to be cheap, much like everywhere else.

He can't stay healthy for a full season, he's out of shape, he's lazy and he coat tails higher skilled players.

If Dustin Penner can be had on a one-year, $1.5M contract then he can be considered a viable "option", but by no means does he fix any problems or fill any holes on a team.

He certainly has had his up's and down's, I won't disagree with that. But that's exactly what I'm alluding to, as far as a one-year deal goes. And whether he flourishes more in other places, I seem to think he'd fit in perfectly in Philly's scheme. He's basically a more gifted Steve Downie.

I think he was well worth the $2 million Anaheim gave him. That's not exactly a cap-restricting contract, even if they did unload him for "cap reasons."
