Jokinen also had some off-ice issues going on, which is why teams like Calgary and Vancouver passed on him. There have been some unconfirmed (obviously) reports that it involved a \"non performance enhancing\" substance. Think Miami.

If that is even partially true, I am definitely glad that teams passed over him.

Carolina is far from looking like the next Florida. Carolina\'s forward core is top five in the league, and they just need to add two defensemen (easier said than done) to be a contending team once again.

If they do move Cole for a d-man... this is a solid club.

Ray Whitney - Eric Staal - Justin Williams
Sergei Samsonov - Rod Brind\'Amour - Patrick Eaves
Chad LaRose - Matt Cullen - Scott Walker
Jeff Hamilton - Brandon Sutter - Darcy Hordichuk

    Tim Gleason - JM Liles
    Joe Corvo - trade
    Frank Kaberle - Casey Borer

Not an amazing defense, but solid enough for the East.
Did I miss something? Has Liles been shipped to Carolina? Or are you just assuming that is where he will sign as a free agent?

taking a page out of theoren\'s book huh? Man... it always seems to be the multi-category fantasy studs that develop substance abuse problems...

I miss theo fleury... he was soooooo much fun to watch. You never knew what he would do...

I wonder if jokinen will get to that unpredictable point, or if he will mysteriously have an \"injury\" in training camp that requires a couple of months of rehabilitation at a discrete \"health spa\" somewhere in the desert...

I\'m simply penciling him in there. I have been calling Liles to Carolina all year, and won\'t change my tune. They have the space and he is a perfect fit.

because he has trade value. If the Canes really want to get a good young d-man, they will have to give up something better than Cole or Whitney.
And to think that this could all be prevented by just being patient and not trading their blue chip defensive prospect for a bag of pucks because he decided he wanted to stay in school.

Absolutely! What the hell was Rutherford thinking that day? Trading JJ for Gleason/forgetable player\'s name because JJ didn\'t think he was ready for the NHL and wanted to stay in school one more year?

    Talk about short-sighted. inch:
the canes were extremely patient with johnson. He rebuked the team twice when it came to contract offers. the second time, they really, really needed help with most of their defencemen out due to injury or surgery at the beginning of the season. rutherford made the moves he needed to make in order to field a complete team that season. I find this criticism of the johnson trade that I often hear to be based on a superficial understanding of the circumstances surrounding the team at the time it was made.

Johnson has yet to light the world on fire in L.A., whereas Gleason has been a decent performer for Carolina. The impact of this trade won\'t be fully felt for many years.

Regarding williams, he\'s my favourite cane, so I don\'t want to see him going anywhere.

Angus I think you misunderstood my post. I was making reference to stupid trades when I talked about Carolina being the next Florida. e.g. JJ and Luongo trades. I also think Jokinen falls into the same category cause I think they could have got more for him.

Carolina has a great team and are nothing close to Florida
stupid trades? ladd for ruutu was great, as were the recchi and weight deals that helped them win the cup. Jack Johnson is nowhere near the player that Luongo is. Man, people sure are high on this kid.

Rutherford is a decent GM who is far from the milbury of his generation.
