I do this trade. Bishop and Crawford is a nice duo to own. Losing Backstrom does not hurt you and parting with a prospect is ok if your upgrading a position, which you are.

Yes, Crawford is the long-term starter in Chicago and the upgrade from Bernier/Leafs to Crawford/Chicago is worth a prospect and Backstrom.

OK he balked at that, he was interested in Backstrom but now I think he's seeing him in decline and Crawford as a top notch starter

Not a chance in my opinion.
I like Bernier as a better goalie than Crawford, but in a worse situation, and really, they're not that far apart in terms of what they'll give you, and that is not nearly enough to make up for the loss of Eberle.
Backstrom is a throwaway essentially. Not much left there. Too bad you missed out on the first one, but you're still solid with what you have. Don't worry too much about it.

Bernier and Bishop is a good tandem. Losing Eberle is not worth the upgrade from Bernier to Crawford.
