Timonen might be all done, so in that case no hurt in adding Green but in terms of making you a happy owner -that ship has sailed.

He may be a decent stop gap. I have Marincin, R. Murphy and Pouliot in the farm.

He's probably a better option than Timmonen, but that isn't saying much. I'd drop Timmo for him, but wouldn't be holding my breath for much. Best case - he gets off to a hot start and you can trade him for something before he gets hurt.

I would add Green before someone else does
Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.

Wow people are shitting all over Green in this thread. He did score 38 points last year in only 70 games....injuries are an issue with Green but 38 points is valuable for a defender in a fantasy league. It's not like we're dealing with some 20 point scrub here. Oates liked putting Carlson out on the top PP unit....now with a new coach, who knows? Green could recapture that top spot which is really where he should be anyway, and with a full season getting 4 minutes on the PP per game, he could easily jump back to 50 points. Or he could miss 30 games and flame out. That's the problem with Green.

But way too many people totally writing him off in this thread, it's ridiculous. Ship has sailed, stop gap, LOL!.....completely wrong in every single way. The ship has sailed on him being a 70 point player, sure. No harm there a 70 point defender is extremely rare. However during the lockout he did score at a 20+ goal, 60+ point pace, and during the middle of this last season he went through another stretch of scoring at a 55-60 point pace. He finished the year slow but up until the last 15 games or so he was on pace for 50 points.

Injuries will always be an issue with Green. However, your defense is weak. Green would immediately be your best defenseman.

Green's no slouch in SOG (which you count) either. just a tad above 2.4 shots/game. Pro-rated, it would have brought him in the top 10 for D

Hell, he's 17th without prorating it. Also provides decent hits and high blocks for an offensive D. And he could have a hand in Washington's PP still.

I see no reason to not take a chance on him in an 18 team, 6xD league. Especially when you don't count +/-.

It's not that he's a bad option from a pure scoring perspective, it's solely a matter of "if he plays"
Since his big season in 2010 he's played 186 of a possible 294 games, that's just 63%. Prior to this last (relatively healthy season) he was only playing 54% of his games.

that all said, he's not a bad guy to gamble on over Timmo but just make sure you've got a good prospect you can call up to fill in for him if/when he gets hurt

    Then that changes things.

I'm still a Green believer, so I could be biased. sure, he does get injured, and being an 18teamx6D league is going to be tough to cover with an IR replacement.

That being said, Green is a top 20 option as a shooter on defence, and still a top 30 in points. He's played 35 (out of 48) and 70 (out of 82) games the past two years, which are reasonable numbers (he did play only 35 in 82 3 years ago though). He was a top 30 option on PPP, despite the lower PP time. He's sneaky good in hits and blocks for an offensive guy, too.

He's a strong option, but you have to price him accordingly. He could reach 50 points if healthy (imo), but he should be acquired as a guy who is likely to get something like 30~35 points in 60~65 games with strong peripherals.

In your league Green is still a valuable defenceman. He provides good offence (and maybe the hope of great still lingers) with good peripherals. Injuries are his calling card, but in a H2H league I assume you can IR him if you have to and these types of leagues injury prone players hold their value much better.

Green + J. Campbell for J. Howard. My team is a contender with R. Murphy, Marincin and Pouliot in the wings. Bernier + Howard + Rinne + Brodeur + Bryzgalov are my tenders. The later two just acquired. FYI - Goalies count for 33% of your scoring.

Besides Green, the other GM has Weber, Suter and Hedman.
