Default Studs and duds for 03/12

    Studs
    Olli Olli Oxen free
Olli Jokinen: The former 80-point player can’t be counted on to post consistent numbers anymore, but every once in a while he gives a fantasy line that is reminiscent of his Florida days. Last night, Jokinen finished with two goals (his first turned out to be the game winner), an assist, five shots, and one blocked shot. He also won six of 13 faceoffs.

    Carey-ing the team
Carey Price: In a battle between the past and future of Canada’s Olympic team goaltenders, the future won out. Price stopped 28 of 30 shots to pick up his 12th win of the season. This is Price’s eighths straight game where he has given up two goals or less. He now has a GAA of 2.00 and a .937 save percentage on the season.

    I’m getting a Hard-ing
Josh Harding: Harding put on another good show last night, making 21 saves for his third shutout of the season and his 14th win. Those 14 wins is a career high for him. He now has a sparkling .939 save percentage and 1.45 GAA.

    King me
Tyler Toffoli: How did this guy ever start the season in the AHL? His two goals last night, including the game-winning goal, now gives him six goals and 11 points in 14 games this season. Last night, he also finished with a plus-two, three shots and one hit.

    Duds
    No TLC for MDZ
Michael Del Zotto: Not sure what has happened to MDZ, but maybe he misses Torts more than anyone realizes. Last night, Del Zotto went a minus-three, with two hits and four shots. In his last six games, he has just one point and is a minus-six.

    Devil’s in the detail
Patrick Elias: Elias had a quiet game last night, registering just one shot. While he did win nine-of-15 faceoffs, Elias is now pointless in three games.

    Kimmo-therapy needed
Kimmo Timmonen: Eight games ago, Timmonen had three points in a game against the Senators and poolies were hoping he was starting to turn a corner. That game gave him 60 per cent of his season points total, as he has gone pointless since. Last night was more of a same, with a minus-one, a takeaway and a giveaway.

    Random thought of the week:
I have a theory (and I mentioned this in a forum post earlier this week) that Brodeur has already told the Devils organization he is going to retire after this season (hence the Schneider trade in the first place). But before that happens, the team wants Brodeur to get to 700 wins. Right now, he's 24 wins away.

Seven hundred wins would be a cool number to reach. The next closest is Roy, and he would be 150 wins behind. The closest active goalie is Luongo, and he's only halfway to 700 wins. If a goalie won 35 games a year for 20 years, he would get 700 wins. So it would be an amazing number to reach, and one that would probably never be broken.

That’s why I expect Brodeur to get the majority of starts for the season.
