Studs and Duds

Studs

No Goals Allowed

Marc-Andre Fleury and Jimmy Howard came through for their teams shutting out their opposition. Howard stopped 29/29 shots securing a shutout against the New York Islanders. Fleury had a bit of an easier night tonight against the Tampa Bay Lightning stopping 21 shots. Fleury played a full 60 minutes stopping 5/5 short-handed shots.

Honorable Mention goes out to Corey Crawford and Kari Lehtonen playing lights out stopping 53/55 in-game minutes and taking the penalty shootout to 11 rounds.

Three for Me!

Daniel Alfredsson, Joe Thornton, Logan Couture, Sidney Crosby, Gabriel Landeskog, and Jaromir Jagr all scored three points tonight for their respective teams. Most props go out to grandfathers Alfredsson and Jagr for keeping up with the youngsters by finding the back of the net. Fortunately for each player, all of their teams pulled in the win tonight as well.

Blues need some Aloe Vera

Because they just got Burned! Brent Burns came through tonight for the San Jose Sharks scoring three goals and one assist (to the almighty Hertl) against the St. Louis Blues. Burns scored three goals on three shots, scored a power play goal, went +3, and even threw a hit for good measure. The guy had a heck of a night.

Duds

Doing Nothing

Frans Nielsen and Kyle Okposo top out on the worst stats of the night. Both had zero goals and zero assists, while combining for three shots, two take aways and two giveaways. Statistically, they were the worst fantasy wise on the night. Things are looking rough on the Islanders even with the addition of Thomas Vanek in the top-6.

High Scoring but No Points

Teemu Selanne and Cam Fowler were both shut out tonight by the Calgary Flames in a big 5-2 win. Marek Zidlicky and Patrik Elias are also two notable names who failed to provide offensively in top-6 roles while combining for zero points. Elias even managed a -1 on the night. Marc Vlasic is the last player to be mentioned as he failed to tally any points with the San Jose Sharks winning big 6-3 against the St. Louis Blues 6-3. While Vlasic did not tally any points, he did manage a +2.

Headaches in Net

Brian Elliot starts out the night being pulled after playing only 20 minutes in net. Elliot managed to stop 8/12 shots and solidifying a .667 save percentage. Kevin Poulin also had a rough night for the New York Islanders as he let in five shots out of 30. The Islanders offence didn't help by failing to score on 29 shot attempts. Cam Ward was also shaken but not stirred when he allowed five shots on 26 shooting attempts by the New Jersey Devils. Finally, after coming into his second game of the season, Ilya Bryzgalov managed to let in four shots on 23 attempts. After the game, Bryzgalov mentioned the site of "Really Humongous Bears" coming at him.
