Studs

Kari Lehtonen
Yes they were playing the hopeless Oilers, but Kari Lehtonen picked up his first shutout of the season blanking Edmonton’s young stars in a 22 save performance. It was a good night for his fantasy owners and he also picked up his second assist of the year on the empty net goal.

Brayden Schenn
The Flyers are winning! Brayden Schenn collected two goals including the games first goal and the game-winning goal in an all-important win. The Flyers are now officially out of the basement, and on a 3-game winning streak which in large part, was due to Schenn’s performance last night. Dare I say this could be a sign of increasing fantasy value for Flyers owners?

Ray Emery
In a night of low scoring games, Ray Emery was a standout performer in Philadelphia’s 2-1 victory over the Penguins. He collected first star honors stopping 31 of 32 shots. The only goal he allowed came from a quick play in front of the net that Crosby was able to get his stick on. The win gives Emery a boost in competing for the number one job.

Duds

Nazem Kadri
Although he produced a really good night for fantasy owners, some of his actions were questionable in the contest. Kadri’s picked up a power-play assist and 14 penalty minutes, which, if you had him in your lineup you would be pleased with those numbers. However, Kadri made contact with Backstrom’s head early in the first period causing the Wild netminder to leave the game. Later he hit Mikael Granlund from behind and received a match penalty. He has a telephone hearing scheduled for later today. If he misses any games, it would be a minor setback.

Nail Yakupov
With all the recent discontent coming from Yakupov’s agent Igor Larionov over his young superstars lack of playing time in Edmonton, nothing has changed. Yakupov played just over 13 minutes and finished the night with one shot on goal and minus 1. Things are looking gloomy in that corner right now.

Jeff Petry
The Oilers played a close game against the Stars. A goal post and some outstanding play by Kari Lehtonen was perhaps the bigger deal here but Jeff Petry was on the ice for two of the goals and in those instances did not look very good. When Rich Peverley put the Stars on the board Petry was right in front of the net. He could have done more to prevent the goal. Late in the game Petry bobbled a high puck coming into Oiler zone with an empty net behind him, resulting in the final goal. The loss wasn’t Petry’s fault but in those two instances he looked like a sub-par NHL defenseman finishing minus-2 on the night.
