my pick is made...and a list to the comish since I will be gone till 9 or so tonight....

I hope Hanzal is a good pick, I am not sure how things will shake out with Mueller and Turris apparantly ahead of him at C...a move to LW with Mueller and Doan would be nice Anyone have any insider info on how this will shake out?
I think Hanzal is a pretty good pick, especially for $8. I thought Yahoo had him as LW last year (I see he\'s listed as C only now), but that would solve the Mueller, Turris depth problem for you. I think he\'ll likely play on the port side with one of the top lines!

Oh man, Ramo... I was so close to picking him this time. I figured he\'d be coming back around.
My cap hit is $444 so I\'m not far behind DieHard... I\'ll probably be drafting another cheapy coming up too.

Feel free to spend like a drunken politician with an unlimited expense account. Now is not the time to be fiscally responsible in this pool.

Hey Comish, I thought the intent of the cap was to break up dynasties and keep things challenging for the top teams....it seems that it is becoming a major strategy point for the draft too. Was that your intent? It seems that anyone near the $1000 cap whose team has a good year will then have trouble in the following season. My ideal scenerio was that the cap did not interfere with drafting strategies and only a couple of teams per year are affected by the cap...this does not seem to be the case. It may be time to begin reworking the formula or increasing the cap for next season so it is not the main factor in roster decisions... IMO...

No, the cap defintely should come into play in the draft aswell. The idea of the cap is to keep things competitive yes, and this is what its doing. You can tell right now that some people\'s teams are better than thoers because they\'ve been taking prospects while others have been taking proven players, but by the end of the draft, the cap will probalby end up evening it out a bit. Some teams will just have better players than prospects, and others will have better prospects than players.

There is no reason the cap shouldn\'t come into play while drafting.

I\'m more on the side of Anonymous here. The cap should make it a challenge for the top teams to keep all their top talent, just as in the NHL.

Let\'s see how this year\'s draft goes before passing judgement on the cap. Many of us have yet to draft a prospect (ahem, Crazy, Comish, etc).

I think it will even out closer to the end of the draft thanks to the cap.

I have looked at the numbers and it is something like the top 850 salaries need to be picked to reach $30000 ($1000 x 30 teams) and we are only drafting 750, sure there will be some teams that push the cap early (Crazy, Comish) and there will be some teams that salary is a big factor in who they pick, for good and bad. So yes the cap will come into play but it will come into play because that GM chose to bring it into play, while others have chose not to.
