Marleau + unknown for Zherdev + 6th overall rumor

This comes not out of the usual rumor mill but from a reporter on the Sharks beat who from what little i\'ve encountered has seemed dependable.

Persoanlly, i\'m not sure about this, because i\'m still not convinced by Zherdev. Still, he is entering a contract year, which could spur him to have a strong season. This, however, make their need for veteran playoff leadership even more dire. If they\'re now over the Korolyuk fiasco and willing to give a Russian winger a shot, I still think they\'d do better obtaining the 3rd plus Eric Perrin from Atlanta, equally desperate for a center, and drafting Filatov. A gritty veteran two-way agitator who can put in 10 goals and 20 assists would do the team good as well.

If they find a dance partner for Marleau... I do believe it will allow them to resign Campbell along with other guys that are UFA/RFA and give them more than enough wiggle room under the cap!
Who knows how much that kid (Campbell) is asking for now. I read somewhere (on Spector\'s website) that if Campbell goes unsigned, come July 1st a bidding war could push his price tag up to around $8 million.... which I think is more than just slightly ridiculous!!!

He could get $8 million right now on the open market, the bidding war would be if anybody wanted to go over that.. We are going to see what kind of a kid he is, take the $6 million and stay in SJ where he says he likes or be greedy and take the big money and play in Chicago or somewhere\'s like that..

Probably a bad deal for SJ, but it\'ll likely keep them in the playoffs for a larger duration of years. That tends to be what the ownership group aims for so....

IF this rumour turns out, San Jose\'s lines SHOULD look like this:
Michalek-Big Joe-Cheech
Zherdev-Little Joe-Seto
Clowe-Mitchell-Grier
Plihal(*vomit*)-Goc-Roenick

With Campbell,Ehrhoff,Rivet,Vlasic,Murray, and an open spot for Joslin(*vomit*) or Spang(*deathly vomit*). OR if they keep McLaren, which I\'m suspecting they don\'t. Even if they keep McLaren, it\'s a sad state of affairs on San Jose\'s blue line.

I think it\'s a bad trade for the Sharks. They can find better stuff out there on the market for Marleau. I would assume the talks started from the Columbus end, and not the SJ end...
