Default Drop Shane Doan? If so, who should I pick up?

    Hi all,

Team / league in my signature. I know it's a keeper league, but since it's a limited keeper and the question I have is around someone who I have no intention of keeping (they're only there to help me this year), I figured this was the best forum to post in.

Looking for some veteran players who have a history of scoring (vs. unproven rookies who only have potential / big upside), I drafted Shane Doan with my final pick. However, I'm starting to think he's slowing down too much and there may be better options for this season only. For just this year and based on our league's scoring, would I be better off with any of the following free agents?

    Hemsky
    Burns
    Gerbe
    Stastny
    Turris
    Heatley
    Berglund
    Tanguay
    Abdelkader
    12 Team Weekly H2H, Daily Lineups. Keep 7 + 1 Prospect (<164 NHL games).
    Scoring:
    PLAYER: G(3), A(2), D Pts(addt'l 0.7), +/-(0.5), PPP(addt'l 1), SHP(addt'l 0.5), SOG(0.4), BLK(0.8)
    GOALIE: W(2), GA(-1.5), Saves(0.3), SO(3)
    Positions - 3C, 2RW, 2LW, 4D, 2G, 5 Bench, 4 IR, 1 prospect

    C - J Hughes(LW), Hintz, Malkin, Pinto
    LW - M Tkachuk(RW), Robertson
    RW - Rust, Necas, Zuccarello
D - Makar, Fox, Bouchard, Roy, Krug
    G - Oettinger, Thompson, Wedgewood
    Prospect Keeper - L Hughes(D)
    IR - Hill(G)

I've watched all of Ottawa's games this year, and Turris has been very, very good. Probably their best offensive player, imo. It's a very small sample size, so take it for what it's worth. Good luck.

    I would grab Turris too

and personally I would drop Trouba or Hedman to make a spot for Burns

I would go Stastny. Stastny is still getting prime PP time, more than Duchene I think.

Keep an eye on Abdelkader, Turris and Tanguay, though. I assume Burns is a RW in your league?

I've been leaning towards Hemsky (good surrounding cast as long as he stays in a top 6 role), Turris, or possibly Stastny (good linemates could set him up to get back to his 70-80 point career bests, but I feel like this would be adding unproven talent vs someone who's really demonstrated consistency & the ability to score in the NHL. I guess you could say the same about Turris although he's on a much better team.)

    & to Yardsale's question:

If I were in a Yahoo league where Burns has Wing and D eligibility, I would have grabbed him days ago. We play in ESPN though, where he only has Wing eligibility, so his value is nowhere near as high as in Yahoo. I usually need to have 5 D on my roster to make all of our weekly starts, so between that and his limited eligibility, I haven't found a way to convince myself that picking up Burns is a good move for me right now. I've also tended to stay away from having more than 1 guy from the same line on my team. With Thornton already on my roster, those two players will rise / fall together. The upside could be good, but it would also make things worse when they go through a slump.
