Hossa, Nabokov, Gonchar, Getzlaf
We\'re picking keepers next weekend, and the championship team in our leauge is stacked. He\'s complaining we\'re only keeping 4 and we\'re announcing so early. In your opinion, who do you keep???
Here\'s my rough ranking order:
Marian Hossa
Evgeni Nabokov
Sergei Gonchar
Chris Osgood
Thomas Vanek
Marty St.Louis
Ryan Getzlaf
Tomas Kaberle
Jason Pominville
Brian Campbell
Brent Burns
Standard offensive stats, ONLY KEEP 4!!!
Hossa, Nabokov, Gonchar, Getzlaf

Vanek may come close just on his potential and his LW status but not worth dropping Getzlaf or Gonchar.

hard to argue with that but all I\'ll say is that I think I\'d feel safer with St. Louis than Hossa...as a Hossa owner the past two seasons and a frequenter of several Thrashers games I know what hes capable of but he\'s one of those guys that takes games off...so if you\'re OK with getting a hat trick one night but nothing for the next 2-3 games then OK. Also, I haven\'t heard anything about a contract with the Pens yet so thats concerning...in Pitts he can definitely put up some numbers, but if he winds up someplace less competitive I;d be worriedHossa, Nabokov, Gonchar, Getzlaf
hossa is a lock, dont think for a second about not keeping him. +1 for the list comish put together

bullshit, if hes in Pitts he\'s a lock, if he goes to Florida or something like that I wouldn\'t count on it...St. Louis is the safe pick, he\'ll get 80-90 pts guaranteed...Hossa might have a 2006 season or he might have a 2007 season roll th dice
Actually, in Florida, he\'d have a Center to work with(and Jokinen would have a great winger, finally). That wouldn\'t be bad at all.

I don\'t know. It doesn\'t seem to matter much where Hossa plays. He has been one of the most consistent performers in all of hockey for years now. Actually, you could make a good case he\'s MORE consistent than St.Louis.bullshit, if hes in Pitts he\'s a lock, if he goes to Florida or something like that I wouldn\'t count on it...St. Louis is the safe pick, he\'ll get 80-90 pts guaranteed...Hossa might have a 2006 season or he might have a 2007 season roll th dice
Here\'s the numbers for Hossa over the last 7 seasons:
2001: 75 pts, +19, 44 PIM, 23 PPP
2002: 66 pts, +11, 50 PIM, 22 PPP
2003: 80 pts, +8, 34 PIM, 33 PPP
2004: 82 pts, +4, 46 PIM, 39 PPP
2006: 92 pts, +17, 67 PIM, 39 PPP
2007: 100 pts, +18, 49 PIM, 44 PPP
2008: 66 pts, -14, 36 PIM, 29 PPP
Here\'s the numbers for St.Louis over those 7 seasons:
2001: 40 pts, -4, 12 PIM, 7 PPP
2002: 35 pts, +4, 20 PIM, 8 PPP
2003: 70 pts, +10, 32 PIM, 19 PPP
2004: 94 pts, +35, 24 PIM, 30 PPP
2006: 61 pts, -3, 38 PIM, 20 PPP
2007: 102 pts, +7, 28 PIM, 30 PPP
2008: 83 pts, -23, 26 PIM, 29 PPP
You are going to have a VERY difficult time convincing anyone that St.Louis is the better and more consistent player once they take a good look at those numbers.
In fact, St.Louis\' point totals of 70, 94, 61, 102 and 83 over the last 5 seasons is the very definition of INCONSISTENT. Honestly, its much easier to tell what you\'re gonna get from Hossa year-to-year than it is with St.Louis.
Add in the fact that Marian is a few years younger, and I don\'t see how you can keep St.Louis over Hossa.
Just my two cents.

*sigh* I love people that post numbers with no context attached. -lol
we obviously didn\'t see the spark from him in the pros until he landed in TB and then he broke his leg the first year he was there I believe so I don\'t see how you can count that year (which btw he was playing very well) or even the year after as him being 100%...you dont recover from that kind of injury quickly. After that he\'s had one weak year, so no I dont call that inconsistent.
That all said, its really a personal preference thing I guess, as a Hossa owner myself I\'ve spent a lot of time cursing his streaky play and the fact that if he gave 110% every night he could be duking it out with Ovechkin, Malkin and Iginla for the scoring title. I guess I like St. Louis more as a player and thats my bias, I can\'t argue that Hossa won\'t put up numbers in the right situation.
Him going to FL was perhaps not the best example, lockedge is right that that could actually work...my point was that he\'s been blessed by always playing in high octane offenses: Ottawa, Atlanta, Pittsburgh...if he ends up somewhere that focuses more on defense and team play he will wilt faster than you can say \'ouch\'
Honestly mcgoo, I wasn\'t trying to start an argument with you, so I hope you don\'t take it that way. I don\'t think you can go wrong with either one. They are both elite players. Like you said, it all comes down to personal preference.
I see Hossa as the more consistent producer year-to-year, and the younger player, so I would be apt to keep him over St.Louis. Just because you see it the other way around doesn\'t make you wrong, it just means we disagree B)

Hossa\'s going to put up 45/90 wherever he goes, at worst.. Don\'t let this season fool you. He is an offensive beast who can produce on his own. St. Louis is also sick, but I\'d take Hossa from a keeper perspective.
I agree. I take Hossa over Marty. Hossa already is a very good 2 way player; and a sniper on any PP. I think he would get his, even if on the Wild. Starting this past season, I personally have stayed clear of Martin due to his age and style of play. If he loses a step or two in his speed, his point totals will start to dip.
I agree with Hoss over Marty but not because Hossa is a \"sniper\". He is not really a sniper, he is more of a goal scorer. He has GREAT hands and he uses his size to get into perfect position around the net to bury anything within his reach. Perfect blend of size and skill that most defensemen cannot deal with legally in the new NHL. He will put up numbers no matter where he ends up and I still see Boston as a definite destination to reunite him with Savards perfect passes.
