Help with 1st rd pick

Hey guys-

I have a draft upcoming this week and could use some help ranking a few of the top players in this format.

G,A,PIM,Hits,PPP,SOG,Face off wins

Position matters. 3C 3Lw 3RW

Who are your top 4 in this format? I was thinking:

1. Malkin (only one of the big guns with dual eligibility C,RW)
2. AO
3. Stamkos
4. Crosby

I have a top 3 pick so guaranteed to get one of these guys but unsure which to pick.

Is this H2H or Pts only? Also, what are the Goalie cats? How many Goalies? More information will enable better advice.

Stamkos is more consistent, while Malkin has a higher upside but is injured more often.

Crosby has to be #1 though.

I didnt give the G cats because I wouldn't consider taking a G in the top 3. But, its W, GGA, SV% and Games Started. Henrik would be the clear choice here, but I cant go G that high.

Crosby > Stamkos > OV > Malkin

Crosby & Stamkos first because of points, consistent point production, and faceoff wins.

OV comes in third for me over malkin because even if he only puts up 85-90 points his contribution in hits and shots will be huge. Malkin in last because he isn't as valuable as crosby and stamkos as a centre (far fewer faceoffs and thus far fewer wins), and doesn't contribute in periphery stats as much as OV. Plus, always an injury risk.

I am actually surprised everyone is going Sid here. Not even taking into account his injury woes of late, if pts are somewhat close between the four, he gets crushed in Hits and SOG to some of the others.

This league is through fantrax and I am able to look back to previous seasons to see rankings. Not since the 09-10 season has he outperformed any of these guys in this setup.

I dont know if that changes any opinions, just throwing it out there.

I say that as well fully expecting Sid to go number one regardless but I wasn't sure he was actually the best for this setup.

In a league where you start 9F and 2 utility, you need points first and foremost. Those are hardest to come by. Crosby delivers on that. Just because someone like ovechkin hits and shoots a lot doesn't mean he is immediately most valuable. You can always get a guy like callahan to fill your hits deficit and still contribute in points for one of your depth spots, along with some D that will do the same.

to put it in perspective: if crosby outpoints OV by 20, you can afford to grab a defensemen in your draft that will put up 20 less points than another defender, but makes up for the difference in hits. That's not very difficult. Same thing for forwards... you could grab clutterbuck instead of a 50 point player easily and your hit department is solved and you still come out on top. Also, crosby is a best in faceoff wins.

I agree with you here, jcairns and I do appreciate all your input. I have the 2nd overall so I did assume Sid would go 1 regardless. I just added him in the options in case he fell to me.

Where we may disagree is malkin being 4th on this list. I was seriously contemplating taking him second here. I figured he loses to OV in shots and hits, but could have more PIMS, FOWs, and point total would be close regardless. Him having C/RW eligibility factored in as well and was maybe the tipping point.

Its certainly close though and I guess you really cant go wrong with any of these guys!
