Default 1st overall pick in keeper league

Just curious what you all think:

I have 1st overall pick and planning to select Drouin over MacKinnon. Great opportunity to play with Stamkos & St Louis vs MacKinnon on 3rd line in Colorado (as stated by coach Roy).

What would you do? Who do you think has a higher offensive potential?

I personally think Drouin has the higher pt potential but Mackinnon seems like a safer choice. If your league favors goal scorers or SOG, then I would also favor Mackinnon as well. Gotta look at this one from long term prospective. Either choice would be a great investment for your team.

Drouin is an incredible player, MacKinnon is a special player. Both will have great NHl careers... I just think MacKinnon is a nudge above.

Mac is the superior talent. Don't get caught up in linemates as much as overall longterm talent. Who knows if Drouin and Stamkos ever click. Who knows if someone gets traded. There's alot of factors that go into it but I take Mac 100 out of 100 times.

They are both going to be amazing, I think you could just flip a coin. An idea could be trade down to 2nd, get something extra and that way the choice is made for you. I had 2nd overall pick and I wound up with Drouin, and I am more than happy with that.

But if I was to choose, I think I would still go Drouin. I think I would anyway haha

I can't list my 2nd main keeper as there are too many players, but it is a keep all H2H points-only league

You just have to go with your gut on this one because nobody can call this. I'm a Drouin fan but I have no idea if he'll have a better career than MacKinnon. I believe he's a better offensive talent while MacKinnon is the more complete player. It's a bit like P. Kane vs Toews. A lot will depend on your league scoring. If it's multi-cat, I'd probably go with MacKinnon. If points-only, I'd go with Drouin.

Bottom line though, both are great picks.

    Mackinnon for me too.

I mentioned this in another thread, but a few weeks ago I attended a Halifax/Moncton game with a scout and met with a number of other scouts while there. Not a single one of them had Drouin over Mackinnon and they all felt that Mackinnon would be the superior player by far.

MacKinnon is Roy's golden boy. He will get more opportunity then anyone else. They are already talking of moving players to the wing or even MacKinnon. Don't kid yourself, he won't be on the 3rd line for long if he even ends up there.

I would pick Drouin number 1 overall. Mackinnon is the more rounded player but Drouin is the more offensive player. Mackinnon has no one really to play with in Colorado where as Druin will play alongside Stamkos for the next ten years. I like the sounds of that.

I guess you are taking it as a given that Stamkos resigns in TB? He only has 3 years left on his deal and then is UFA.

Mackinnon and Druoin reminds me a bit of the debate that took place between Hall and Seguin...

Duchene pretty good, I think. So is Landeskog. Maybe he doesn't line up with either of those guys on a regular shift (though entirely possible), but he will certainly get PP time with them.

I also feel, unlike Drouin, that Mackinnon will become the kind of player who makes others around him better. Soon people won't be saying that Mackinnon doesn't have anyone to play with. Instead, they will be saying that player X has fantasy value because he plays with Mackinnon.

I do agree that Mackinnon is the better all-around player, but I also think people are underestimating his offensive upside, which is truly elite.
