1st Overall in Redraft
I just inherited a pretty bad team in a Keeper League. There are 10 teams and we keep 5 players this year (6 next, 7 next next..) It's H2H with G/A/+-/PPP/GWG, and W/S%/GAA/SO
There are 18 rounds in the draft as it is a deep roster. My keepers are Rask (3), Kunitz (10), Yakupov (11), M. Smith (14), and Huberdeau (18). I own the 1st overall pick in the draft. This is valuable because I need some star talent, but unfortunately it is rare for a 1st overall pick to be kept (since they can just be drafted again there, unless it's a crosby/malkin/stamkos who'd go 1st each time) so it'd be short term help.
From looking around team's potential keepers, it seems like my options for 1st pick are:
Perry
Datsyuk
Parise
Kopitar
Daniel OR Henrik Sedin
Who do you guys think I should take? I'm thinking Perry, because I already have 3 LW, but I could also use a good C?
this early in the draft and with so few keepers, I wouldn't worry about positions and just grab the best player available
with the stats used, I think the BPA is either Datsyuk or Kopitar and I'd probably give a slight edge to Kopitar, but it is close.

This league keeps players at the round they were drafted in. Yakupov was drafted in the 10th last year, Hall in the 8th, Seguin in the 12th. I would assume Mackinnon will be around 7-9 this year too. Before that though, there are high skill guys like the names mentioned that will be drafted for 1-yr help.

Just remember, Dobber projects McKinnon in the Stamkos Tavares pelleton. Just below the Crosby's of the world, and above the other elite players. I tend to agree with that. If you think you can get him at a lower round, then do, but I would be targetting McKinnon at a higher round than others would be.Originally Posted by avsfan91

I'd probably give the edge to Perry since he and Kopitar are REALLY close and RW is such a shallow position for star talent. You can get a center later in the draft.

Hey all, it looks like Nick Backstrom (Wsh) is also going to be available. I don't know if he'd slot in ahead of Perry/Kopitar or after them. Someone else to consider?
Backstrom has a much higher ceiling this year than your other options. Could easily get 90 pts so I'd take him if he's available.

If MacKinnon is available at the 2nd round, I would not wait longer though.
