    Default Gardiner or Johansson REP

I have both players with 1 year on a contract and I can extend either player a year. So who would you think provides more production in 2014-2015. Thanks for any advice.

I like both both of these guys but if I gotta pick one then give me Johansson. He saw the majority of his playing time with the big line in WSH as the season went on and that could lead to a big breakout next season.

Gardiner. The whole free Jake Gardiner seemed like a bust at first but watching him rise up the depth charts in the playoffs, no less, has made me excited to see what he can do next year. A very creative player with silk hands almost makes him a fourth forward. The team is only going to get better.

It's the difference of a likely 50 point Dman or a 60 point forward. I'll go with Gardiner. I have him myself and there is no chance I would trade him straight up or even close to it for Johansson

I would go Gardiner as well. Dmen with his skill and upside don't grow on trees.

It's not really fair to compare a defenseman directly to a forward since their point contributions will obviously be different.

The answer is not necessarily who is better - it's where the holes in your roster are, and if you have no holes, then it's who will garner more trade value.

For what it's worth, after Gardiner's breakout performance during the playoffs... I am sure he will be a staple for the Leafs d next season.

If it is your team in sig., then I like Gardiner (more depth in your forwards), especially in a dynasty league. He's gonna be there go-to offensive D and staple on the PP...

I hear ya. I didn't word that correctly when comparing the dman and winger. Thanks for the advice.

Yeah after that series, I wouldn't be too worried about his impact on this team. He showed that he's integral to moving the puck out of the Leafs zone and Carlyle actually looked like he would use him to do that and trust him to do it.

Gardiner looked great in the playoffs and Johansson showed flashes at times over the last two seasons. Both could take positive steps next year. I predict 58-64 for Johansson and 36-41 for Gardiner.

Johansson looks to be doing all the right things in Washington but Gardiner looks to have a very promising future as a PPQB.. In a keeper league I would definitely advise you to take Gardiner. But since you only get the player for one more season, then I would take Johansson..

But it also depends on what you need going into next year.. If you can trade one of these guys after they start off hot, then maybe Gardiner is your guy.. It all depends on what you need..

I agree with this relative to there positions Gardiner is the clear choice imo. Reilly is not ready to take over a major roll on this team and I see Gardiner as the PPQB starting as soon as next year unless he is moved, which I actually do see as a real possibility.

Gardiner's value has never been higher. With plenty of offensive options from the back end, I wonder if he is moved for help in other areas. But, man, it will be a tough sell to the fans to trade him right now - the return better be fabulous.
