I was recently inspired to watch Walking Dead (thanks to the thread in this forum) and finished all 3 seasons in a couple of weeks. The only other "tv show" thread active is Game of Thrones which I won't watch until I've read all the books.

    What else is there?

Just to save you the trouble, these are shows I'm already following:
-Suits, The Office, Glee (yes you read correctly), Californication

    Shows that I'm considering:
-Breaking Bad (I'll get to this eventually, just a matter of when)
-Mad Men (very interested - any feedback?)
-Dexter (not so crazy about this one but I know it's got a rabid following)
-New Girl (only because I LOVE zooooey)
    -Spartacus
-Boardwalk Empire (don't know much about it, but I like gangsta shit)

I don't want this to turn into a "what's your favourite tv show" kind of thread, so unless you have a VERY compelling argument, let's stick to what I've listed above.

    Thanks fellas.
GOT - you might have to wait several years to watch it since the 6th book is being released this year or next and will probably have to wait another 2 years in top of that for the seventh. Read the first three books and you'll be caught up. Can get the first 4 books in a set for about $25 - $30 ... Best investment I've ever made!

The Wire - by describing other shows you like, not sure if this is your style but it is very gritty and has some funny moments too. Some of the best characters of any show I've seen with Omar being my all-time fave.

Mad Men - this is the perfect show for you. Yes it's slow but it is very well written and when I describe it to friends I can't give reasons for why its great ... It just is! Don Draper is a close second to Omar as the best character I have ever seen.

The League - watching it right now and am literally laughing out loud through the entire show. Currently on season 2 and this being a fantasy sports site I figured it would already be mentioned as the plot is centered around a fantasy football league.

The Sopranos - not sure if you watched it but it is the gold standard for dramas. GOT has taken the lead for me since it was my favourite show.

How I met your mother - just started watching it and love it. Neil Patrick Harris as Barney is just awesome and they also live poking fun of Canada as one of the characters is from here on the show and in real life. Worth a watch

Can't comment on Breaking Bad, Justified, or any of the others. Judging by your tastes I'm not sure Dexter is for you but it is still a decent show but not elite as one poster already mentioned that it is predictable.

    re: Mad Men.
As I remember... the first season was a bit slow.
It takes a while but the other characters will grow a bit too. This show does get better with age.

Wife & I got three episodes into Homeland on Mon/Tues.
Pretty happy with that show so far... though I've heard it drops off a bit in Season 2.

We're looking forward to Dexter Season 7 coming to Netflix in mid-May and then we get another season of True Blood available in late-May.

The hard part will be scheduling the "married couple shows" around NHL playoffs.
Well... with Philly being not part of it... I guess it's easier.

I absolutely loved that show but was very disappointed by the second season.

I only read the first post, but thought I would chime in anyways.

The choice for me is easily Mad Men. One of the only shows in recent memory that doesn't desperately try to keep the action rolling with unnecessary plot twists and over-dramatic scenes. It's well written and actually takes the time to develop characters. Not for those which the attention span of a 6 year old.

I liked the first couple seasons of breaking bad, but then it fell into the trap that most shows do, scrambling for action and ultimately becoming a caricature of itself. Season 4 ended poorly, and the first few episodes of season 5 that I saw were unbearable.

Dexter - I can see the appeal, but I thought it was garbage. The concept for the show is amazing, but the details are pretty bad. Too ridiculous and over the top for me, but of course entertaining at times as well.

Wow- I completely disagree. I just finished season 4 and I thought it was fantastic- easily the best season of the show. You didn't like the ending?

From your list I would recommend Breaking Bad overall. The quality of acting, character development, and rich story lines make it one of the best shows EVER.

Breaking Bad is friggin awesome. I agree with pts9889, season 4 was very good. The ending was excellent television. This show will go down as one of the best of all time.

Have watched 4 episodes of AD so far - its pretty good, for some reason doesn't have the same feel as it did before...maybe it'll pick up, or maybe I need to watch seasons 1-3 again. Going to get around to House of Cards eventually.
