Default Thoughts on players and the Cup

I thought of this from another post that I mentioned that Cam Ward had a Conn Smythe Trophy, A Stanley Cup & a big fat ring.

What I was thinking was with the money the players make today why wouldn\'t they have a replica Stanley Cup made to put in their house? And I mean down to their names engraved on it.

Is there some sort of trademark that would prohibit this (their not doing it to profit from it but as a momento)? What better way to celebrate than to have it to look at and use as inspiration (and maybe a copy of their W-2 mounted on the wall :cheer: ) in the off-season.

    Would you?

I think this goes with the old a player never wants to touch the cup unless he wins it.. I don\'t think any player wants a STANLEY CUP in his house, maybe it is a superstition..??

I think if Jeremy Roenick wins the cup he will build a house that looks like the cup and will live in it.

That would translate to a lot of Stanley Cups roamin around and the last thing you want is a mixup with a replica and the real deal. I dont know of any other sports that make replicas...I think the ring is the players prize. That and a fatty bonus check. I like the ring.

If you were to get a replica that was obviously a fake, like I dunno, maybe half the size or something, then I could see that working...I still really like the ring though.

professional athletes are WAY too superstitious to do that kind of thing. plus, think of how much all their other nhl friends would mock them each year they DIDN\'T win it.

it\'s rare for hockey players to build themselves awards....

is a W-2 a tax form? no one wants to be reminded of that!!!

Sometimes along with championship rings, some hockey clubs will give each player a scaled down Stanley Cup with all the players\' and coaches\' names from that specific team engraved on it.

...if I might add, we are currently dating, and she is quite a handful in the bedroom...

I\'m talking about players that win the Cup not every player. It was just a wierd thought on my part.

It is but when it has at least six zeros on it that is quite an incentive to work hard in the off season to keep getting those W-2\'s with lots of zeros on them.
