Default E. Staal for Huberdeau? REP

Would any of you do that deal? I would be giving Staal with Huberdeau coming back.

I am not going to win this year, so i am trying to build a team for the future.
Should i be able to get more for Staal?

    IMO,

That is a really solid foundation for a trade but I'm not sure that it would be a good idea to make that trade straight up.

If you want to rebuild you need to look at the big picture.

You have a ratio of 50/50 when it comes to mid age to young players.

Again, IMO, you have some great assets to trade and some great young talent to build from.

Your farm looks great. Your D looks great. You have RNH & Johansen and then the rest you need to trade.

I say all that to say if you are not going to commit to a full rebuild, then you shouldn't move your best player. If you are going to commit to a FULL. Rebuild then I would pursue trading Getzlaf first, M Smith, Perron and then Staal. Those 4 players should get you at 5-6 really good young players.

Huberdeau for Staal is a great starting point, does he have any other prospect/young guns to pursue. Perhaps Staal & Wheeler for Huberdeau + (under 23 talent) + prospect.

With Getzlaf I would try to get a guy like Galchenyuk... So again same formula...

Getzlaf + Ennis or Lupul for Galchenyuk + (under 23 talent) + prospect

Keep in mind the (under 23 talent) has to be equal or better then the guys you are giving up of course.

Just a few thoughts to ponder.

Why do you want to trade Staal? He's 28 years old, in his prime and having a great start to the season (points and peripherals). Sure, Huberdeau is starting well but Staal is already there and will be for years to come - a great player to build your team around.

That trade reeks of perpetual rebuilding. Big pass for me.
