    Default Doughty Dropped

    Somebody just dumped Doughty... Doh!

    1. I've got #1 waiver priority. Use it? Some guys get really impatient in this league and drop big talent wayyy to early. So my only hesitation is wondering if I could snag someone even better with #1 down the road. I'm definitely leaning toward using it, though.

    2. Is Pitkanen the guy to drop over Schultz?

    Thanks!

Your team looks pretty solid, in a 1 year not sure I would jump to grab him.

Agreed. There's no guarantee someone better will come along (how can Doughty get dropped anyway? Wow), and even if someone comes 30 games later, a near-full season of Doughty will at least help you get to the playoffs.

No disrespect, but that's terrible "help". I'd take Doughty over any of your D (except letang)- but with your options I'd drop pitkanen and sleep like a baby for the season.

    I agree 100%.

    Horrible advice.

    Go grab DD.

Is Doughty that important for him?

This is a 1 year league, not a keeper. Other than the playoffs last year, Doughty's production during the past 2 seasons is 40 and 36 pts each, and only 15 ppp or less. Pitkanen can give you that if healthy.

The whole LAK team is barely outscoring Maleau (11 to 9 goals), cup hangover or just LAK low scoring ways.
Instead LWers are relatively weak. Maybe wait for a Hartnell or Ryan to get dropped by an impatient owner.

Heck I own him in one league and I picked up Raphael Diaz today, nearly dropping DD.

If you must pickup DD, then drop Pitkanen. But unless you play in playoff pools, he has been average for 3/4 seasons.

Ya I agree. Sometimes too much emphasis can be placed on name value in one year leagues. I bet a lot of people who bailed on Ovechkin last year for somebody like Spezza would have been ridiculed on these forums, but they came out looking pretty smart. Doughty wasn't even a top 25 scoring dman last season, who's to say he will be this year? Maybe he will bounce back, but it's certainly not a given.

Fantasy hockey is a lot like gambling, so there's something to be said for playing the percentages, but there's also something to be said for observation and instinct.

    Well said.

I would keep what you have. In a 1yr league, especially in a shortened season like this one, that waiver wire can be a nice little addition to helping you out. If you are going to use that #1 priority, it best be for someone who is going to help you win. Right now, Doughty is a step backwards on your roster, not a step forward. Pitkanen is playing just as much TOI as Doughty and is actually performing. I personally think Doughty is one of the more over rated guys on these forums, especially if you are in a salary cap league.

My thoughts exactly, maybe I should have provided more detail. Picking DD up just because he is available doesnt make sense to me.

Thanks for all the advice guys!

I ended up holding off on the waiver claim for Doughty...

... and he cleared waivers early this morning. So I then immediately dropped Pitkanen for him, and I still have my #1 Waiver Priority! I do think DD is a bit overrated in fantasy... but I think at his worst he's still an even swap with Pitkanen. And, at his best I cash in big time.
