Default Studs & Duds for Friday 1/25

    Studs

    Ryan Malone

What a third period for the Lightning left winger. Malone potted his first of two to tie the score at four and then put home what would prove to be the game winner just past the half way mark in the final frame. An otherwise quiet night on the scoresheet, but he came up clutch when his team needed it.

    Todd Bertuzzi/Pavel Datsyuk/Valtteri Filppula

Well that's more like the Red Wings we're all familiar with. After coming within four seconds of being shutout twice in the first three games, the Wings were looking to regain the old offensive magic. Well they asked, and Dats and his linemates delivered with a combined 3 goals and 5 helpers.

    Cory Schneider

Wanting to put his opening night shelling at the hands of the Ducks behind him, Schneider certainly did that. Rather emphatically as a matter of fact, with a 30 save shutout on the road against those same Ducks. And in their home opener no less. That should bring the Schneider owners in off the ledges, and temporarily silence the I-told-you-so crowd.

    Honorable mention

In honor of Tequilamonster's cracking the 1K club this week tonight's honorable mentions go to Kyle Turris and Sidney Crosby for their respective two point nights.

    Duds

All Pens not named Crosby or Malkin

For the second straight game only one of those two as able to find the back of the net. That will change, no doubt, but this is the mighty Pens juggernaught so you expect more from the supporting cast.

    Defense in general

The final scores say it all. Five-of-seven games saw the winning team score four goals or more, and three saw five or six. #ugly

    Jonas Hiller

On the flip side of Cory Schneider's stud game we come to Hiller's dud. Nights like this happen to the very best of them so no big thing in the long run. Hiller earned his spot here because in the second half of the game, and third period in particular, he seemed to just kind of drift away. Nothing to panic about though Hiller owners just one of those bumps in the road.
