I watched John Wyck the other night. It's definitely the vendetta flick that it looks like, but it's fun. They brought together an interesting cast to play bit-parts in it.

Sometimes less is more. Too much crazy action can actually become boring after a while. A lot of directors would do well to learn this.

But these movies make piles of cash, so I guess there's no reason to change them.
+1 to all of this. Updating them for the Lord of the Rings audience sounded like a reasonable idea at the time, but turned out to be extremely flawed in the execution.

Just watched Ex Machina. I really enjoyed it. I give it a solid 8 out of 10, which would have been higher if not for a fairly weak third act.

Scariest movie ever made: "He's Just Not That Into You" - it is a dark sub-textual cautionary tale and the regret of having actually sat through it will Haunt. You. For. Years.

Saw the new Peanuts movie with the kids. They loved it. I thought it was lacking a little.

I was amazed though at how Charlie Brown ever got so popular. I loved the Peanuts movies/comic strips as a kid. But looking back at it, has there ever been a main character so poorly liked by his friends? He's called blockhead. The whole football thing. Always losing his kite. Never getting the final out as a baseball pitcher. etc. Linus is pretty much his only friend.

I think I mentioned it in this thread before, but I saw Spy in the theater. It was hilarious, especially once Melissa's character switches halfway through and she becomes a dominant spy. It was my wife's favourite movie of the last few years.

Recently saw the Martian. It was incredible... highly recommend. It was so good I went out and bought the book.

Also saw Hunger Games which was mediocre.
