Been dipping back into some holiday classics lately:

Die Hard - 10/10 - don't care if you consider it a Christmas movie or not, it's just the perfect action movie.
Bad Santa - 7/10 - I used to watch this one every Christmas, but several years removed from my last viewing, I've got to say that this brand of comedy has aged poorly. Still nostalgic and oddly festive but it takes a brain from a different time to truly appreciate the blatant vulgarity.

    Next up... Home Alone.

Any other holiday classics to revisit?

Wife wanted to watch Santa Clause last night. 30 years later it's still pretty enjoyable.

I also watched Killers of the Flower Moon last week. Without spoiling anything....I thought it was really good and definitely didn't feel like 3+ hours. I just felt like something was missing.

This one, and Oppenheimer, are in my queue this week. I just need to finish working on my basement while on Christmas vacation.

Saltburn - I'll give it a B-. It was weird. Very weird. And like...nothing about the plot was new, but the whole time it had my attention and the scenes, cinematography and acting was top notch. But...ya, weird ass movie

I give it a 2/10 because there's some suspense but this movie is just not good. It's like they ended the movie in the middle of the story or something.
I think the main thrusts of it were to (1) make you feel uneasy and uncomfortable as opposed to telling a story and (2) show that the veneer between everyday comfortable consumerist civilization and outright anarchy is a lot thinner than people realize. The second one is a common theme, so it is hard to be provocative about it. I thought the movie did a decent job of the first point. The book is a lot more about the friction between the houseguests and the homeowners being in each other's spaces than it is about set pieces which are not in the book. Pretty much every "action" sequence in the movie is not in the book. The book doesn't really tell a narrative story, a good chunk of it is inner dialogue. Hard to translate that to screen sometimes.

Does the book have an ending or just stops the story in the middle as well?

It sort of trails off with the daughter having walked off on her own, but in a different manner than the movie does. There is no climax or aha or circling back moment, more of a feeling of "this is what life is now." Definitely creates a feeling of "oh, I guess the book is over now."

Society of the Snow - 8/10. It's about the Uruguayan '72 plane crash with the rugby players. There is already a movie made about this (Alive made in 1993 with Ethan Hawke), actually there's a few. But this one was just as good as Alive in my opinion. Society of the Snow is a Spanish film, but with the English dub over it, I barely noticed the lips not syncing up. It was a very strong movie, and very sad. It's currently on Netflix.

Watched a "A Good Person" on Amazon. It's Zach Braff's movie with Florence Pugh and Morgan Freeman. It's a rather depressing story about grief, regret, and forgiveness. Definitely not a feel-good movie but it was extremely moving and very well done overall. 8/10
