Playoff pool

I have always done the box format for playoff pools and was wondering what other options are out there.

You can do a players playoff pools where you pick a certain number of players at the begining of the playoff and keep them as long as they are active.

I did this for the first time last year here and at my job. It was pretty cool!

That\'s what I was thinking of doing.
Is the trick to draft goalies first.

box format?? is that were you have 6 guys per box and you pick one etc.??

I did one, which Chic is probably talking about where you just select like 12 F and 4 D and a goaler and you get points for G, A, and Wins, additional pts. for Hat Tricks, and SO for goalies. I wasn\'t a huge fan since lineups were relatively similar except for maybe a guy or two from each team.

Not to interupt your guys\' brainstorming but we should do a little box format pool on here. Get a bunch of the more active/regular users to just pick out some guys... just for shits and giggles?

back to the topic: has anyone tried a draft style for playoffs where no one canhave the same player. like a regular season pool. I think this would only work with 6 ppl or less. If you have more than that then there is not enough players to go around. anyone have some experience with this?

From what I can see in the \"Site Announcement\" section, Dobber is already preparing one \"box\" playoff pool.

As for the one I did last year, we had too pick 20 forwards (no goalie) and it wasn\'t a draft. If I recall, the categories were G, A, PPP, SHP.

The trick is to pick 17-18 players from the 4 teams you think will go thru the conference final and maybe 2-3 players from a team you\'ll think will pass 1st round.

Hey Crazy,

I did a draft style 2 years ago. We had 12 guys, we randomly picked drafting positions out of a hat and then we went up and down the line drafting players. I think we ended up picking 8 players each. It made for some slim pickings and 3rd/4th line guys of teams like Detroit and Ottawa getting picked. It was fairly enjoyable, but it would be best if you could all get together in person, or in a chat room on msn or something to do the draft.

I tried something last year that was pretty interesting. Everyone picks 10 players per round, any player, any team, G+A only, 1 point each. After the first and second rounds, you can exchange 5 guys. Third and fourth rounds are locked.

You\'d be surprised how different the teams end up looking like, as you can only choose ten guys, and the first and second round matchups are extremely important (7 game series are a lot more valuable then 4 game sweeps). Everyone would still be interested in the pool after the first few rounds, as they can exchange the players they lost the previous round (with set maximum).

I\'ll probably do something similar this year, as everyone in the pool loved it last year. And it\'s something different then the \'choose 20 guys for the whole playoffs\' style pool.

The best playoff pools are getting 12 to 15 people in a bar, order up some pitchers and wings and just draft 10 or 12 players each depending on time.
Bragging rights are always the best in that situation.


Another easy format is just have everyone choose any 20 players. Then remove the players from everyone\'s list that all have chosen. You are usually left with 17 players on each team.
