    Default [Tryout Offer] Justin Bieber

Teenage pop star Justin Bieber has been offered a contract by the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL.

"Yes, we would play him if he was up for it," coach Matt O'Dette told NHL.com. "I have seen video on him and he does have some hockey skills."

According to the team's website, "The Bakersfield Condors and Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Matt O’Dette announced [Tuesday] that they have offered hit-recording artist/RW Justin Bieber an amateur tryout contract for the upcoming 2012-13 season."

Bieber, 18 years old, is described as having "soft hands, a good skating stride, and a devastating wrist shot capable of beating NHL caliber goaltenders."

"He appears to be strong in shootouts as well," the team's website says.

Hahahahaha. Kudos if they can pull it off. It would certainly increase ticket sales.

Yeah, heard this the other day also. Why would he play though?

He's entering the prime of his career, and he's going to 'waste' it playing in the ECHL and risk injury?

I'm praying he decides to give it a go, just so some knuckle dragger can grab ahold of him on the ice and beat him bloody. First thing I thought of when I read the story was the sprite commercial with the figure skater.

If it keeps him away from the radio, then please, go for it.

Also, I would probably pay to have the guys in the shower room give him a proper... well, that's all I'll say.

I am no fan of pretty boy pop stars, but there have been plenty of pretty boys to play in the NHL. I do not like his music, but as a Canadian I'm sure he's had plenty of opportunity. Either way, whether he plays or not, sounds like a publicity stunt.

I think it is a great move, not from a hockey sense, but rather money wise. I heard on the radio that he has something like 800000 followers on facebook or twitter or something like that. It also said if 10 percent of the teenieboppers bought a jersey with his name on it, that is 80000 jerseys sold. You think Bakersfield has ever sold that many jerseys in their lifetime.

The one thing that would kinda irk me about it would be that someone who worked his ass off his whole life playing hockey would lose his job to Justin Bieber just because he's famous.
