    Default drafted team review

Alright guys, guess its time I try to start frequenting the football forums a bit more. Had our draft the other night and I am interested to see what you guys think of my team and areas I might need to address, or pickups to be made.

These are the roster spots: QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, TE, WR/RB, WR/TE, K, DEF, 6 BENCH

Stats are fairly standard PPR, with return yards and high yardage bonus

My team in a 12 team league:
    QB: Rodgers, Smith
    RB: Jones-Drew, Peterson, Ingram, Helu
WR: Colston, Wallace, Rice, Hester, Little, MiFloyd, Britt(reserved)
    TE: Finley, Celek
    K: Hanson
    DEF: Steelers

I think I am pretty happy with the team, but there are certainly some question marks. What are your thoughts? If you want to know some of the top free agents available I can definitely add those.

    Thanks for any help!

Looks like you had a top 5 draft pick... (Rodgers)
Drafted 2 RBs at the 2nd/3rd round turn... (MJD, AP)
And then shifted to some WRs in 4th/5th rounds.
True - how did the first 3 rounds go? Where'd you pick?

Certainly a tough draft spot having the questionable RBs fall to you.

You are likely chalked up for a loss in week 1, but the team becomes more formidable in week 2 with MJD & Britt entering the picture.

I really don't know how the return yardage shakes into the picture, so hard to comment there.

Overall, I'm going to guess you finish around 6th-8th.
I worry about AP and I think Ingram/Helu are both going to struggle to be productive.

From what I'm reading, there are a lot of RB question marks out there and so you may be able to attend your weakness at RB by really watching the waiver wire.

In my 14-team league, I had the #4/14 pick and got Rodgers.
Then I went with some good WRs at 2nd/3rd rounds (Jennings, Welker).

I got my RBs very late, but did take several:
    *Beanie Wells
    *BenJarvus Green-Ellis
    *Toby Gerhart
*Isaac Redman (and I'm learning that Dwyer may grow into this spot)

With Rodgers, I didn't even bother to pick another QB... waste of a roster spot, IMO.
Better off stocking my iffy positions, my 6 bench are 4 WR, 2 RB.

Might be something you consider, to increase your odds of having a valuable RB when they find use.

Solid team, but not too excited about your backs. I'm confident MJD will have another stud season, but AP worries me this year. Also, neither are particularly great for PPR. Peterson never catches the ball.

I'm assuming both Jennings/Gerhart were drafted-- would've been nice to handcuff one of them to one of your starters.

Your receivers are solid-- Britt is an awesome WR3. Not sure why he slipped so far in drafts this year; he is immensely talented. Should be a 3rd round pick next year if he plays a full season (which would be 15 games for him).

Finley/Celek is nice because Celek is a solid guy in PPR.

I think you should drop Hester and pick up a back. Who is available? You should snag Turbin if possible-- Lynch may not start week 1, and you don't really have any RB to start in week 1. If Turbin starts in place of Lynch he should get at least 20 touches.

Guys like Hester/Rice/Little/Floyd will likely never crackyour lineup. I like Little the most out of all of them, with Floyd not too far behind. If I were you I would drop one or two of them and stock up on some RBs before it's too late. RB is going to be a mess this season, and I have a feeling there will be some studs emerging that haven't been drafted in most leagues.

I assume this is going to be your starting lineup: Rodgers, MJD, AP, Colston, Wallace, Finley, Britt, Celek.

Assuming your backs perform the way they should, then it's a very, very strong team. But they are both question marks as of now. Colston is poised for a big year and Wallace should be great when he gets up to speed. But, you should try and add to your depth at RB because it's not that necessary to have so many guys at WR.

    Good luck!

    Aldo

EDIT: missed the previous post when I wrote this, but as pengwin said, there's no need to roster a backup QB when you have Rodgers. If he goes down you're screwed and in that event you can get someone better than Smith off waivers anyway. So, I think you should drop Hester and Smith, and pick up Turbin and another back.

This is my first year in a PPR league and I wasn't quite as prepared as I like to be. Looking back, there are probably some changes I would have made, but we'll make it work. I usually try to be pretty active on the waiver wire, so hopefully I'll be able to snag some valuable pickups through the season.

That is an interesting thought about not carrying a backup QB, and might be something I'll have to consider, then just grab the best available guy from the wire for Rodgers bye which isn't until week 10.

Some players I was looking at that are currently available: Mike Tolbert, Daniel Thomas, Jonathan Dwyer, David Nelson, Steve Smith (STL), Jermaine Gresham, Joel Dreessen, Ryan Fitzpatrick (better week 10 matchup than Smith?)

    Thanks!

Yeah, when drafting I dropped the ball on not getting either of Gerhart and/or Jennings. Turbin was also drafted and unavailable. The top RBs that I can see right now are probably Mike Tolbert, Daniel Thomas, Jonathan Dwyer, Jacquizz Rodgers, Danny Woodhead.

Rodgers is definitely worth an add.

Definitely agree with that. Rodgers should have been drafted. And I would probably pick up Dwyer too. He could be a starter by week 3.

Tolbert is a good option as well-- everyone is writing him off because technically he's third on the depth chart. But the truth is Carolina will use all of their backs. In a PPR, he holds value. I can see him catching a couple balls per game and he will definitely be used in the red zone. He may hold no fantasy value and be primarily used to block, but there's a good chance that he could surprise.

Side note: in a ppr, I definitely would have taken Rice if I were you. The big 3 RBs are HUGE in ppr leagues. They should go off the board 1-2-3 every time.

But, Rodgers is a great consolation prize. Like you said, it takes time to adjust to PPR strategy.

If we're going to be critical:

    1. Should have taken Rice...oh well.
    2. As much as I like Wallace,I think you should have used round 4 on another RB when you have a flex spot.
    3. I would dump MiFloyd and Little to stash up on RB's. You are going to need a third starting or at least fairly productive RB, and adding a couple more should increase the odds of one becoming a starter.
