Default [Speculation] Flyers Pursuit of Ryan

    Per Rotoworld:

    Bobby Ryan - W - Ducks

Philadelphia general manager Paul Holmgren says he does not plan to pursue any restricted free agents, such as the Rangers' Michael Del Zotto or Montreal's P.K. Subban, but he hints that he would like to trade for Anaheim's Bobby Ryan.
"I don't think there are any Shea Webers out there that are left in that category," he said, "so I don't see that as being an option, certainly this year." As for Ryan, however, Holmgren intimated that trade talks for the winger are not dead. "You are asking me to comment on a player on another team. I don't think I can do that," he said. "We look always to make our team better. We like our team. We are trying to add to our team without subtracting if at all possible, make it better yet. We will see what the rest of the summer brings."

They are trying to add to the team, without subtracting if at all possible? Seems like Holmgren wants to get Bobby Ryan for very little. That seems impossible. I interpret the quotes as he would like to sign someone without giving anyone up (Doan), and that he also has been in minimal trade talks to explore his options (Ryan).

Fungchen, care to write a full detailed insider response?

what on earth is he going to give up for ryan? schenn's are pretty much untouchable now that they are reunited, unless he packages them both for ryan, which would be stupid considering their D isnt that great as it is. voracek was just locked up, which means it has to be something like coutourier + read in the deal. and i highly doubt flyers want to move coutourier. ducks can get a better package elsewhere if they seriously want to move him...

    burke, make it happen

A sell high of Hartnell? Does he have a NTC?

hartnell is too invalauble for what he brings to that team. i take back my voracek statement, if richards, carter, and jvr can be traded shortly after signing their contracts, why not voracek.

They could move Hartnell's hair to Getzlaf in the deal.

    Default Market value

If the Rangers can get Rick Nash for Anisimov, Dubinsky, Erixon, and a first rounder.... then, wouldn't fair market value for Ryan be something like Simmonds, Read, Gustafsson, and a first rounder?

No team was willing to give up more than that to get Nash.

So, I don't think Schenn, Schenn, Voracek, Couturier, or Hartnell would be offered.

Ryan doesn't have an NMC and isn't massively overpaid like Nash.

Ryan is also three years younger and much better.

agreed. return for ryan should be much beter than nash. if they had the same contract then maybe nash would get a better deal, but the NMC and killer salary lowered the return.

philly doesnt need ryan, they need a defenseman. an offer sheet for del zoto or subban is the only thing that makes sense imo.

Couturier makes the most sense if they want to add Ryan. Ducks need some centre depth. Couturier's value is pretty high right now and I think it will be less come this time next year.

Offer sheeting Del Zotto or Subban makes no sense at all as those two guys are on some of if not the richest teams in the league.

both would be matched instantly. unless they gave mdz a ridiculous contract, i'd much rather take the four 1sts.

Why are they bothering to go after Ryan? Do they really need to improve a forward group that is already one of the best in the league when their defense is more of an issue?
