Default [Signing] Ryan Murray to sign ELC with Columbus

    Per Rotoworld:

    Ryan Murray - D - Blue Jackets

Ryan Murray and the Columbus Blue Jackets are close to agreeing to an entry-level contract.
It sounds like the two sides will agree to terms well before training camp. There's a good chance that Murray will be part of Columbus' opening game roster.

There is a lot of hype with him. I think it's good he is going to a team with a good D core. Makes up for the lack of offense. He will hopefully learn some good habits, and stay positive if they have a rough year or four.

Yes absolutely! Haha sorry, I got excited, really looking forward to him developing into a franchise defenceman (hopefully!).

Should be fairly good chance, Murray is almost NHL ready and so is Columbus.

I dunno... They have a reasonable D core that I don't know if they'll have room for him this year full time at least...

Wissy, Johnson, Tyutin, Aucoin, Nikitin, so that's 5 out of the 6 spots taken up. Then you have Savard, Moore, Holden, Goloubef...

Might not be a bad idea to give him 1 final year of juniors and another run at the WJC instead of sticking him in a bottom pairing role...

Yes he'll make the team, and he'll be scratched every now and then as is the norm for most rookies. The Jackets will go with 7 d-men like most teams.

Or they could learn from their past mistakes (brassard, Brule) and be patient with him, they arent going to be making a playoff push so may as well take your time and let the kids grow slowly and not in a constant losing environment

Those guys needed more time (actually Brassard wasn't even rushed since he debuted 2 years after being drafted), but Murray doesn't. He is ready for the NHL. His play in the Worlds showed it and he was a late birthday so he already has three years under his belt in the WHL. Plus, his WHL team is pretty bad (2nd least amount of wins last year, 22-40-10) so he'll be in a losing environment whether he is in the WHL or NHL. Murray will be fine in a bottom-pairing role, learning the ropes.
