    Default [Signing] Daniel Winnik (ANA)

    Rotoworld post:

Daniel Winnik has inked a two-year/$3.6 million contract with the Anaheim Ducks.
Winnik had eight goals and 23 points in 84 games last season with the Colorado Avalanche and San Jose Sharks. There's a chance that he'll get some playing time on one of Anaheim's top two lines, but he should be regarded as more of a bottom-six forward.

This should make Bobby Ryan expendable.

Why? Has Winnik also been suspended from the post season for stomping someone's foot?

No, but only because he beat the ref over the head with a stick before he could make the call.

Good signing by the Ducks. Winnik should improve their bottom-6 and that's where they needed some help. Winnik provides some experience and is also great PK'er - something they also needed to improve. They didn't have any PK experts at forward and now they got one. Winnik should log big minutes on PK for the Ducks. Very nice signing.

Indeed, and Winnik is actually friends with Cogliano, who I'm assuming he will be side by side with on the third line..and he works out with DSP as well. Here is a blurb from the Orange County Register:

Winnik said he was hoping to stay with a western-based team because of the familarity he has playing against teams within the conference. As far as joining the Ducks, the winger said he’s friends with forward Andrew Cogliano, works out with another Toronto-based winger in Devante Smith-Pelly and is eager to meet his new teammates.
“You have some older guys,” Winnik said. “I don’t know if you can count [Corey] Perry and [Ryan] Getzlaf as older, but they are two of the top players in the league for the last four or five years, since they came in the league. They have a great goalie in [Jonas] Hiller. It’s a good mix of talent and ruggedness throughout the lineup.”
Winnik said he sees himself as a possible fit on the third line and takes pride in killing penalties. His ability to finish is sproadic but he’s hoping to tap a little more into the offensive side of his game.
“Hopefully more goals than I had last year,” he said. “Last year, I probably had the most chances I have had in my NHL career. Shots-wise, I had a lot and created a lot. So hopefully the point production goes up. Hopefully my linemates around me score a little more too.”
