this makes little sense, if weber wanted out he probs couldve done this without the offer sheet. now poile can keep weber for the rest of his career.

the only reason i can see poile not matching is if the first 4 years are at the max of like 14 million.

i don't think nashville will have a problem with the term.
only possible issue for nashville is if weber has told themhe doesn't want to be there.
friedman said they were actively pursuing trade options for weber when this all went down.
makes you think that weber told the he wanted to move,on...
otherwise, you gotta think he is a pred for life and everyone in nashville is happy.

thats number 2 on my list...
just the cba states you have to wait one year before trading a player after matching an offer sheet
though if it is a heavily front loaded contract, this option seems unlikely...

I agree and it's not that bad 100M for 14 years, it's less than Sutter sign whit the Wilds so I think it's a fair deal and hope the Preds match the offer.

This is pretty crazy. I think Nashville could do it, but something tells me that they don't want to lock up a guy who doesn't want to be there. Should be interesting. Weber is the perfect Flyer though. 4 1st rounders, even though they are late is a tad enticing and Nashville is not a team willing to spend much. They would have done 7 for Suter, but I don't know how high they are willing to go.

I'm trying to go back to bed. More info coming in. Philly, NYR, Detroit and San Jose were big players in Weber trade scenarios

Glad to see San Jose was trying to pry him. He's exactly the type of player they need to win a Cup.

I genuinely believe that the Flyers have a chance at pulling this off. Now, I know I'm biased, but it sounds likes A number of teams were interested in getting Weber

If it's true that he doesn't want to stay in Nashville, they may just take the four 1sts. Philly may be able to pay the max over a number of years WITH signing bonuses. He could be offered 26 million in year one.

If what you're saying is true about not being able to trade for a year after the offer sheet, then a sign and trade isn't possible. It was what I was thinking early on.

One thing I DO know... Weber wants to be a Flyer and I love it.

Weber wont be able to get a NTC so even if he didn't want to play on Nashville he would be forced to. He probably wants to be a Pred too, and now hell be a rich Pred.

There is one more option that has not been discussed so far. During the week where the Preds can decide to match the offer, the two teams are also able to make a trade. So Weber can still be traded to Philadelphia for a better package than the four 1st.

Yea cuz the preds were just waiting for someone like the flyers( a big market team) to offer weber a crazy contract so they could match? That makes no sense . This is gonna end with a sign and trade deal with probably two first rd picks goin to the preds and vorack who is also a RFA. BTW the flyers and nashville have history with trades remember scotty hartnell and kimo timonen? Dont think both those players have talked to weber about playing in philly?

no. by signing the offer sheet, weber is currently philly property.

This scenario is plausible if :
1-Weber told Poile that he does not plan to play in Nashville after next season.
2-Poile, knowing he can't lose him for nothing, start to talk with other GMs but is asking for the moon.
3-Holmgren decides to put pressure on Poile by signing Weber to the offer sheet. He knows that Nashville could match, but gambles that they won't since the player stated that he would prefer to play elsewhere. Poile now has a week to lower his demands or to take the four 1st. He also could match the offer and retain an unhappy Weber for 14 years.

Speculation, but could be dead on.
