Look at his AHL numbers, crazy stuff.

As for Toronto it's tough to see Burke making a move like that when he's clearly stated he wants a vet (and from the howls of derision I've read from Leafs fans, seems they feel the same) and he already has young Scrivens and Reimer who still could pan out, but I personally would take the chance on Bernier to Toronto if the asking price was relatively low.

UPDATE: Seems Zorro and I were thinking in the same direction and posting almost simultaneously.
No actually his AHL numbers aren't that crazy. All goalies are unproven, but just as many highly touted ones fail miserably as those who excel. Cough. Mike Smith. Cough. His past season was 5 years in the making.

If you want a good backup with solid AHL numbers, those guys are a dime a dozen. The only thing that separates Bernier from one of those is his 1st round draft status from 6 years ago.

Agreed. He was snake-bitten last season until seeing top 6 minutes, where he showed how dominant he could be as a young player. Even in games where he was held off the scoresheet he was arguably the Leafs' best forward (or complete forward).

Im pretty sure martin Jones is more then ready to serve as Quick's understudy

Perhaps, but adding a slightly more proven goalie gives more security and would give Jones a bit more seasoning which never hurts.
